Devil's Pie Burt Bacharach Mix by DJ O-Dub (2012)

In celebration of Hip Hop's 50th year, we've teamed up with London based ‘Classic Material’ to present a chronologically themed series of mixtapes celebrating the history of recorded Rap music, mixed by Chris Read. Alongside the Hip Hop series this companion Breaks series takes our re-cap of Rap History a level deeper, this time reconstructing the classics of the Hip Hop canon from their constituent sample material. Arranged chronologically of course, this fifth volume pieces together popular Hip Hop tunes from the year of 1990, utilising only the Funk, Soul and Disco tracks from which they were originally constructed. Artwork pays homage to Paul Winley's iconic 'Super Disco Brakes' compilation series.

This Thing Called Life  (A Tribute To Prince)

Mythic journey throughout 70's & early 80's musical NYC burgeoing scene.  On the brink of bankruptcy, gang violence and decadence, N.Y. gave birth to Hip-Hop and Disco. 

''Time square was not Disney Land but prostitution and pimps'' as KRS One state.

Super Rocking Mister Magic, DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Frankie Crocker, Larry Levan or The Ghetto Brothers are all feature in this 80 minutes mix / +60 tracks.

Interview, documentary snippets are added to the stereo mixture to enhance the historical purpose.

The ReMixTapes Vol 4 - Sade

Pre "J.T" 70s Kool & The Gang is one of the seminal funk outfits that would later inspire a generation of hip hop producers and musicians.  As a tribute to co-founder Ronald Bell who recently passed, Raj Mahal spins some of his favorite classic and obscure funky Kool joints with a few covers thrown in for good measure.

Solitary Selections Ep. 19 - 70s Kool & The Gang Tribute - All Vinyl Funk Mix

I enjoyed making this tape. It's a bit different from my more crunchy, vinyl-heavy mixes, but hopefully still bump-able at the local evening picnic or house party. You can do silly dances to it, or just cool out and sip a nice iced beverage while it rocks in the background. Either way, don't sleep on the Vijay Iyer's jazz cover of MIA's "Galang."

I'm planning on doing a series of "seasonal" mixes, in combination with covers from a variety of artists and photographers I know. The first cover is from world traveler, documentarian and incredible photographer Daniel Littlewood, a close friend since high school.
