Cherry Picking 45 7" Master Mix Volume 1

A special 2 hour show this month, all vinyl and only purchases from the last 2 weeks digging in record shops across the UK! 

I was back home for 2 weeks for a holiday on the South East coast of the UK and arrived back in Amsterdam with a 60+ new buys. This show highlights the diversity and range in record stores across the UK from reggae, dub and street soul to US disco, funk and house! A majority of these were bought in Hastings and St Leonards from Pressing Matters, Wow and Flutter and Courthouse Records - and then a couple from a day in London at Atlantis Records.

Tied Together 11 (An ode to UK record shops) w/ Bevan @ Operator Radio (September 2025)

Pulling from the archives this week: this snippet was taken from Communion in Minneapolis on 7/6/25 warming up the patio for WWW & Christian James. This was ~30 days after me snapping my collar bone in Chicago. I was originally supposed to spin alongside fellow excavator Jeffrey but the timing didn't work out so I took it solo... and kept it even after I was down an arm. Happy with how it transpired all things considered. I probably could've stuck to the USB but I mean, what fun would that've been? ;)

LOVE PENALTY on LYL RADIO I September 2025

Ahead of Saturday’s Dane’s Dance Emporium x Voyage Funktastique session this Saturday at Performance Works, we asked Walla P to contribute a mix to our Pacific Spirit series. 

As predicted, he did not disappoint! In our opinion (and many others) Walla P is one of the purest and most talented DJs in the funk, disco, and boogie sphere, and we can’t wait to see him do his thing here in Vancouver for the first time.

Here are a few words about his mix from the man himself…

“For this guest mix, I got inspired by listening to some of the previous mixes, lots of atmospheric/ambient grooves from records that came out over the last decade or so. Lots of stuff you don’t get to usually play, but I like to think that this could be the soundtrack for my flight to Vancouver.”

IMMI BAKES, a German-Nigerian DJ based in Stuttgart, southern Germany, has been shaping her own musical path for the past three years. Though still early in her journey, she has already brought her distinctive style to the decks in Paris, most notably at the legendary soulful club DJOON. With a wide range of musical influences from Soul and Disco to Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, Highlife and Drum & Bass, she has found her true passion in House Music.

A passionate digger with a keen ear for grooves, IMMI is always searching for the new within the old, creating a unique listening experience. Her musical style blends soulful, groovy vibes with a generous dose of Funk and Afro rhythms. Inspired by the golden ’90s and subgenres such as Classic, Soulful & Deep House, Garage, as well as Electro Samba, Afro & Latin, she delivers a sound that promises an uplifting musical journey. Next up in the Mr Bongo Record Club mix series we invited Norwich-based DJ collective and party purveyors Soul Stew to give us a taste of what they're all about. Firmly rooted in the city's scene for over 9 years, they've been throwing some of the finest parties Norwich has to offer. Alongside championing local talent they’ve also hosted a real range of some of the top international selectors from far and wide, including Sassy J, Volcov, Mark Grusane, Sadar Bahar, Floating Points, Ash Lauryn and Ge-ology to name only a handful.&nbsp;

As a DJ duo Bill and Jack are a real joy to see behind the decks. Effortless blends of unforgiving, unquantized disco, boogie, house, techno and beyond. Their style, skill and passion led to them being signed to Sounds Familiar earlier this year and has seen them play at Fabric, KOKO, Pickle Factory, We Out Here, Lost Village, Field Maneuvers and many more great dancefloors.

Cannonball would have turned 97 this month were he still with us. His records were some of the first I collected - there are so many and so varied, his dedication to recording live sets for his albums and playing with countless amazing musicians, infusing politics into his music and his "raps" in-between songs, is all legendary. I had not realized until now that all of this was done in such a short amount of time - he passed away at the age of 46, one year younger than I am now. To have played and recorded with the legends (Miles et al) then go on to create a massive discography and universe of his own music - along with his brother Nat - is an astonishing feat. Salute!
