Born from juke and ghetto house, footwork is the sound of high-energy dance battles and parties, its rapid rhythms mirroring its dancers’ racing feet. It’s a vibe that EQ Why knows inside and out, having been embedded in the scene since the mid-noughties as part of the Bosses of the Circle collective. In the past decade, his production rate has been dizzying, with dozens of EPs released on his own Equalized Records, showcasing an adventurous, experimental take on the classic sound. Collaborations with the likes of Traxman, DJ Elmoe and DJ Roc, and two appearances on Planet Mu’s ‘Bangs & Works, Vol. 2’ compilation (as DJ T-Why) have further solidified his place in the pantheon of footwork, and he is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.


Nascendo da combinação do juke com o ghetto house, footwork é o som de batalhas de dança de alta energia e de festas, com seus ritmos espelhando os pés frenéticos dos dançarinos. É uma vibe que o EQ Why conhece do começo ao fim, tendo participado ativamente na cena desde da metade dos anos 90 como parte do coletivo Bosses of the Circle. Desde a década passada, seu ritmo de produção tem sido vertiginoso, com dezenas de EPs lançados na sua própria gravadora Equalized Records, demonstrando uma leitura experimental aventureira do som clássico. Colaborações com talentos como Traxman, DJ Elmoe and DJ Roc e duas aparições na compilação da Planet Mu ‘Bands & Works, Vol.2’ (assinando como DJ T-Why), solidificaram seu lugar no panteão do footwork.

The CIRCLE is proud to present the first Hong Kong local Footwork/Juke music compilation "In Memory of DJ Rashad" !!!

The Chicago-based pioneer of Footwork music and also the founder of Footwork family Teklife, DJ Rashad, passed away on April 26, 2014, but his impact continued unabated. The CIRCLE is honored to invite seven local music producers from Hong Kong and Macau to participate in this music compilation. There are predecessors who first introduced Footwork to Hong Kong, and there are also cutting-edge newcomers in recent years. They pay homage to the legendary DJ Rashad with a brand-new production and at the same time showcase the latest sounds from the local Footwork scene.

"In Memory of DJ Rashad" will be officially released on the Bandcamp website on April 26, and The CIRCLE will hold a compilation release party at the end of April. For details, please pay close attention to the news release on this page.

來自芝加哥的 DJ Rashad 是 Footwork 音樂先驅和 Teklife 團隊的創始人， 他於2014年4月26日離開人世，但其影響一直有增無減。The CIRCLE 有幸邀請到七位港澳本地音樂製作人參與今次的音樂合輯，有最早把 Footwork 引進香港的前輩，亦有近年加入陣線的新銳DJ創作人。他們一同以全新作品向 DJ Rashad 這位傳奇人物作至高的敬意，並同時為大家展示本地 Footwork 的最新聲音。

《In Memory of DJ Rashad》將於4月26日在 Bandcamp 網站正式發售，The CIRCLE 會於4月尾舉辦合輯發佈音樂派對，有關詳情請密切留意本專頁的消息發佈。
