Tosun Yusuf Mehmet Barış Manço, known by his stage name Barış Manço, was a Turkish rock musician, singer, songwriter, actor, television producer, and presenter. He was a pioneer of rock music in Turkey and one of the founders of the Anatolian rock genre. Manço composed around 200 songs and is among the
best-selling and most awarded Turkish artists to date.
Many of his songs have been translated into a wide variety of languages, including English, French, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Persian, Hebrew, Urdu, Arabic, and German, among others. Through his television show, "7'den 77'ye", Manço traveled the world and visited most of the
countries on the planet. Barış Manço was one of the most influential Turkish musicians. In his early career, he and his bands contributed to the Turkish rock movement by combining traditional Turkish music with rock influences, which remains one of the main trends in Turkish popular music.

Alim Hamza oghlu Qasimov (Azerbaijani: Alim Həmzə oğlu Qasımov; born August 14, 1957) is an Azerbaijani musician and one of the foremost mugham singers in Azerbaijan. He was awarded the International Music Council-UNESCO Music Prize in 1999, one of the highest international accolades for music. His music is characterized by his vocal improvisation and represents a move away from the traditional style of mugham.Qasimov has recorded nine albums, three of which are mugham albums with his daughter, Farghana Qasimova.

According to The New York Times, "Qasimov is simply one of the greatest singers alive, with a searing spontaneity that conjures passion and devotion, contemplation and incantation."

One of the things we love about doing the podcast series is unearthing great underground sounds from around the world and sharing music from artists and DJs that deserve to be heard, so it's great to put out our first session from Turkey as we welcome Istanbul's Ali Kuru to the series. Ali got in touch earlier this year and we've played his Leng releases on the radio and so now it's great to share his unique mix, full of Eastern promise.

Based in Berlin, DJ, curator, queer-activist, Ipek Ipekcioglu produces an extraordinary warm, dynamic and organic interpretation of electronic music melted with the melodramatic sound of Anatolia/Mesopotamia, Turkey, Orient & the Middle East. 
Ipek Ipekcioglu received German Record Critics' Award for her Beyond Istanbul Albums @ Trikont and was named as a musical and political "visionary" by the Süddeutsche Zeitung. and cited as a representative for “ideologically blinker-free living” by Rolling Stone Magazine. 
The socialy- critical minded producer is an activist and member of female: pressure network and has a strong social-critical agenda related to women, immigrant, queer and gender topics which she transports into her productions. Ipek has been pushing boundaries within the ethnic & electronic music scene and communities for over two decades. This vibrant mix and her work have earned her a place as “one of Berlin’s most important cultural contributors” [Zitty Magazine]. She proudly carries the title of "MC of cross-cultural understanding" (Daniel Bax - TAZ).
Ipek has performed at Glastonburry, Fusion, Sziget, Garbicz, At. tension, Ms Dockville, Womex and many more international electronic and world music festivals from New York City, Beirut, Erbil, Yerevan, Marseille, Los Angeles, Salvador de Bahia, Cairo, Sana’a, Istanbul, Seoul, Novosibirsk to the desert Sahara of Mali, developing an exclusive brand name with her unique & hybrid Sound mix. She has toured throughout, China, Siberia, Japan and the US.
