Berlin-based duo Booka Shade, aka Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, have carved out a reputation as one of the most celebrated electronic acts to come out of Europe over the past two decades. 

With their beginnings in Frankfurt and their sights originally on synth-pop, the duo Booka Shade quickly gained a strong following within electronic music, and in 2002 the pairing formed the now legendary dance label Get Physical Music (together with M.A.N.D.Y., Thomas ‘DJ T.’ Koch and Peter Hayo), where they would have a platform for their own music. 

Three years later, in 2005, their EP’s ‘Mandarine EP’ and ‘Body Language’ - the latter co-produced with M.A.N.D.Y. - launched Booka Shade into the stratosphere with both EPs becoming international successes, whilst the following years soon welcomed an extensive body of work featuring a combination of stand out albums and singles that quickly achieved further global success.

Since their break-through performance at Sónar in 2005, Booka Shade have earned huge recognition with their innovative live shows, even being named one of Resident Advisor's Top 5 live acts in the world in 2010. They have opened for legendary acts such as Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, whilst headlining stages at the likes of Coachella, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter, and Red Rocks just to name a few. In recent years, the band has appeared amongst the likes of DJ Mag’s ‘Alternative Top 100 DJ List’ (2018), whilst their notable live sets have led to key mentions amongst a host of distinguished festival reviews and round-ups, including placement within DJ Mag’s ’10 Unforgettable Sets From The History Of Exit Festival’.

Booka Shade were also inducted into Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 Hall of Fame, having received strong support from the station throughout their careers, playing at both the ‘40 Years of Radio 1’ celebration with Annie Nightingale and the ‘20 Years of Essential Mix’ party, whilst also mixing Pete Tong’s ‘All Gone Ibiza’ compilation album. 

The duo’s fan base is in no way restricted to electronic music enthusiasts, with great success playing slots at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza, and more by utilising their massive crossover potential, which is as evident in their billings as it is in their remix credits, including acts like Depeche Mode, Moby, Hot Chip, Kings of Leon, Woodkid, The Knife and many more.

Add to the mix their Blaufield Music imprint, founded in 2013, and it’s clear and easy to see the pairing's musical knowledge not only as producers but also adept A&R’s, with releases to date on the imprint from both emerging and established talent alongside their own productions resulting in a string of releases and collaborations that can be regularly found amongst the upper end of Beatport’s Top 100 charts and championed by many of the industry’s biggest names.

Twenty years, dozens of EP’s and six albums later, Booka Shade have become more than a household name, they have become synonymous with the spirit which drives electronic music and have set a precedent to which electronic music is still held to today.

Recognized as one of Malaysia’s most prominent figures in the music scene with over 20 years of experience in the industry, Alam has dedicated most of his years embracing the culture. Not only is he one of the backbones behind KL's leading establishments, but he has also definitely proven himself to be considered as one of the pioneers of this generation firing up the local and international clubbing scene. 

Known to be characterized as a house and techno DJ, Alam has always been upfront with what he does; his versatile roots comprises an endless amount of diverse sounds and unparalleled grooves. Regardless, he manages to deliver an experience of sound, which always leaves the crowd with wanting more.

With past residencies at major institutions such as Kuala Lumpur’s premier underground club; The Backroom KL, to the more recent Kyo KL, other worldwide venues he’s graced the decks include The Egg London, Eden & Ibiza Rocks Bar, and having recently played under the ‘Music For Freaks’ banner at 528 Ibiza. He’s played at JENJA & Red Ruby in Bali, Kilo Lounge in Singapore, and opened for Danny Tenaglia at Ce La Vi during the Singapore Formula1. He’s also played at Brown Alley & Ffour Melbourne, Oma Hong Kong (Clockenflapp Festival Afterparty), he’s opened for Dubfire at Cha Cha Moon in Koh Samui, and featured at Mustache Bangkok, The Lighthouse & Broma in Vietnam, as well as Indonesia’s infamous Stadium Jakarta and Embassy / Co2.

Alam has also had the privilege of playing alongside a remarkable list of artists, which includes the likes of Nic Fanciulli, Joris Voorn, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Stacey Pullen, Moodymann, Radio Slave, Kenny Dope, Robert Hood, Butch, Ashley Beedle and many more.

In 2005, Alam moved to Australia, where he developed an impressive following playing alongside Melbourne’s finest and hosting his own successful nights at some of the city’s forefront venues. It was his residency with Darkbeat that kick-started his international career, leading to opportunities in supporting world-renowned event brands such as Resident Advisor, Balance Music, Future Entertainment & Hardware Corp, followed by a number of stints on Kiss FM - Australia’s Dance Music Channel.

After 7 years based overseas, Alam returned to his homeland and joined Ohrwurm as a partner. The collective have been responsible for shaping the Kuala Lumpur scene over the past decade, and have featured iconic names from John Digweed to Michael Mayer, Gerd Janson and Amelie Lens, to live acts such as Guti, KiNK and Stimming, amongst countless others.

In 2014, Alam launched his own recording studio named Decibel Soundlab, which is a one-stop resource for all kinds of audio related productions. On the production note, he’s released 2 EPs on Love International, as well as on his own imprint; Ohrwurm KL Recordings, which was launched in August 2021. His first ever EP ‘Kaleidosimple’ was released on Redflux Cinnabar in 2009 with remixes from Nick Robson, Rodrigo Soria, and Yuuki Hori. The release was charted numerous times and received widespread praise with support from DJs on shows like FriskyRadio and Proton. 

Other highlights to mention was playing at Vietnam’s Epizode festival for 2 years in a row, and not forgetting his 9hrs marathon set he did at The Sweatbox in Elysium. Alam was also selected as one of the supporting acts for Circo Loco 2019 in Malaysia. Throughout the years he’s been featured on Data Transmission, Mixmag Asia, United We Stream, Ibiza Live Radio, UB Radio Bangkok, and Malaysia’s very own Red104.9FM & Capital 88.9FM, as well as interviews on KLue, Juice Magazine, The Star Newspaper, Coconuts KL, and recently on The City List Kuala Lumpur.

In conjunction with celebrating his 20 years of DJing, Alam hosted 20 livestreams during the Covid pandemic in 2020, featuring some of the best local talents, which concluded with a finale video filmed by Effilix Production. Two of Alam’s videos were included in Mixmag’s “Top 20 Livestreams of 2020”. His aim was to showcase Malaysia’s talents on a global scale. The livestreams continued for another year with ‘Ohrwurm presents Micasa Sucasa’. There is still much to come, as this is only the beginning of his musical chapter as Alam continues to progress immensely across the global dance music culture.

Originating from the magical island of Mauritius, Billy started playing music at the age of 17. His interest for music grew considerably when attending parties and supporting his favorite DJs during his college years. He convinced his father to buy his first decks at the age of 16 and spent all his free time practicing as a bedroom DJ. The passion was maintained until Billy participated in the first DJ contest ever organized on the island. “DJ Academy” was launched and found our man winning a promising 3rd place over a total of 60 DJs. With the “Additive Tour” rocking the island in early 2000, Billy had the opportunity to share decks with local talents and DJs from Ministry of Sound by performing warm-up sets for the likes of Joshua Roberts, Anthony Angel, and the French legend Antoine Clamaran.

In 2003, Billy and his all-time partner in crime JP Hurbert teamed up to promote House Music on the island through their electric duo “Groovynite” which brought their personal touch of innovation to the scene by mixing fashion shows and live percussionists in one night. Their hard work and commitment to bring something different to the scene allowed them to play alongside established DJs such as Patrice D’avrincourt, David Jay and Bernard Desmarais to name a few. Known for their energetic sets, Billy and JP performed at some of the island’s finest venues and have appeared on radio shows hosted by Radio One and Radio Plus.

In 2011, Billy left Mauritius for Kuala Lumpur where he regularly performs as a guest DJ for local and international parties.

Dj Itzi is a Spanish DJ based in Malaysia. Her sets explore two distinct moods: vibrant Latin sessions full of rhythm and warmth, and refined house journeys with deep, melodic energy. She curates each night with flow, presence, and connection.

Coming from a culture where rhythm runs in the blood, her sets celebrate movement and energy igniting the dancefloor with every beat. Whether she’s playing for an intimate rooftop or a full house, DJ Itzi crafts unforgettable musical experiences, always in sync with the crowd.
