Golden Era Mix Episode II for Shade 45 (((Broadcasted Jan 1, 2014)))

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's classic LP 'Mecca and the Soul Brother' turned 30 recently, so reminisce for a spell with a mix of OG Samples, Remixes, & Blends.
The way Pete sampled old jazz/funk/soul records and layered them over hard, dusty drums was masterful (how he caught that little part on the fadeout of an Ohio Players record for 'Lots Of Lovin' still amazes me).    
Combine that with C.L.'s sharp yet fluid lyricism (how many MC's could rhyme like THIS back in '92??), and you unquestionably have one of the pillars of early 90's NYC boom bap.

DJ Jazzy Jeff - Hip Hop Forever II

This mix is all about education. What you have in this mix are some of my favorite hip-hop records (well, Alicia Keys isn't really hip-hop, but whatever, Kanye did his thing on that track) paired back-to-back with their original samples. Uncovering original samples and mixing them with their hip-hop counterparts is something I've been obsessed with for a while. This is what I originally intended to do on my radio show on WNYU, but I ended up just playing strictly original jazz, funk, and soul tracks that have been sampled over the years. Some of these joints you'll probably recognize, and some you may not. But, at the end of the day, hopefully, it will open your eyes on how some of the illest producers in the game can re-create and flip great, and sometimes mediocre tracks, into some amazing and timeless hip-hop. The Foundation

My new "situation" has afforded me much more time to work on mixes than I had before.  I am currently sitting on four completed mixes and on the cusp of finishing a fifth.  Of course, all will be released at some later date.  I'm not sure why I'm taking so long to let go of these mixes, but I am.  Mix hoarder?  Whatever you want to call it, here's the first step toward rehabilitation.  Samples/breaks used to create the masterpiece that is Supreme Clientele, mixed like you've come to expect from Pipomixes.
