Enregistrée à Paris en juillet 1982, la chanson fut un véritable tremplin pour elle. En janvier 1983, lors du MIDEM à Cannes, elle la chanta devant un public de 3 500 professionnels de la musique — une performance qui marqua les esprits et déclencha une diffusion intense sur RTL, qui la propulsa à l’antenne plusieurs fois par jour, rapidement suivie par d’autres stations de radio françaises 
Elle devint ainsi la première artiste canadienne à décrocher un disque d’or en France, un exploit remarquable pour l’époque.
