Final DJ set of all original tracks from Spencer Hutchinson, known to the music world as ersatzmodem. Spencer sadly, suddenly, and unexpectedly passed away from complications of sleep apnea on April 21, 2024. Spencer was a beloved creator and caring person whose influence could be felt in so many different places - his paintings, history knowledge, charisma, and culinary skills were just a small sampling of how bright his light really was. Spencer was my best friend. He has my back through so many times, we created so much together. And moving through this world without him ... it is a completely different place now. This set was recorded on April 8, 2024, in Bloomington Indiana , as the moon moved in front of the sun during the total eclipse.

For the 81st episode of the OLAM podcast series, we present Esther Dune - Esther Dune’s sound is characterised by the legacy of techno and (acid) house music. Growing up in The Netherlands shaped Esther’s music as she absorbed the rich Dutch scene of the time. 
 
Being praised for her excellent high-end precision mixing skills Esther blends styles together flawlessly, bringing quality & content to any dancefloor. From raw electro to minimal, Detroit techno, hard techno & proper acid techno. She creates a natural flow traveling effortlessly through all the decades of electronic music like time doesn’t exist. 
 
She also enjoys playing deeper styles like Chicago house, deep abstract techno, obscure acid, (italo) disco, synth wave, new wave & EBM and feels right at home starting her DJ’s sets from scratch setting the mood and building to where the dancefloor needs to be. 
 
Dune has music out, also under her ‘Esther Duijn’ alias, on labels like Gegen Records, Deestricted, Expel Your Demons, Instruments of Discipline, Occultists, Adroit Recordings & Noise Manifesto. New releases are in the pipeline tba.
 
This has not gone unnoticed by the scene holding residencies at Gegen Berlin & Intergalactic FM and being a part of the legendary Tresor.Berlin family. Esther also made (regular) appearances at Radion, Basement NY, De School, Paradigm, Freerotation Festival, Elevator Shanghai, Panorama Bar to name a few. In 2017 she was asked by Resident Advisor to do a tour in Australia together with Skatebård. Esther has 10 streams out on HÖR Berlin & many on Intergalactic FM with more to come.

Dom Dang has been a part of my LA underground journey from the start, he has always been there supporting me and Corduroy Garden. When thinking of who to play the first Substrate I knew I wanted Dom to set the tone. We have always resonated on the Psychedelic/Hypnotic techno sounds and we pursue them together in dark loud warehouses. Dom is committed to the underground, to bringing good vibes to the dance floor, to uplifting friends and their work, and to opening up his space as a place to experiment, express, and listen. Thrilled to have him feature a collection of music on vol.2 of the Substrate mix series, hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

EPM.183 comes from Techmarine Bottom Feeder’s man, Paris the Black Fu. Paris is also the founder of the Detroit Grand Pu-bahs, through which he created an entirely new genre in electronic music in the early 2000s that fused the wigged-out madness of Par-liament and Funkadelic to modern day Detroit techno and electro. Adding some riotous festive funK to the EPM mix series his ‘Fu FuN FuNK Time Capsule’ goes back to the roots of booty shaking bounce as he brings together party classics and lesser-known gems in his own cheeky style. Featuring Cameo, Was (Not Was), Foxy, Brick, Rick James, Teena Marie, The Brothers Johnson, Don Black-man, Ohio Players, Hamilton Bohannon, Kool & The Gang, Earth, Wind & Fire, WAR, The Jimmy Castor Bunch and more, it’s time to wiggle with the master of giggle!

Techmarine Bottom Feeders, the solo project of Paris the Black FU from Detroit Grand Pubahs, follows up 2020's album ‘Boanerges and the Watery Deep’ and July's ‘Sirens of War’ EP (on Engine-room) with a double-headed release in the guise of new single ‘The Hydra’ followed by the ‘Techmarine Bottom Feeders Remixes’ a week later.  Whilst the new single gives a pointer to the project's next underwater adventures, the compilation of remixes puts to-gether a stunning array of artists including Cristian Vogel, Ectomorph, The Exaltics, The Advent & Zein, Aux 88 and Dadub who all draw from the 2020 album whilst Paris' fellow Grand Pubah, Mr. O. delivers a brand-new interpretation of new single, ‘The Hydra’, cranking up the tempo with a driving techno banger!
