Latam mix at Waha Festival 2019 [143-147 BPM]

The DJ set from Trance Orient Express, a Dutch concept of psytrance parties with a long tradition, held at Ruigoord Church in Amsterdam, October 26, 2019. Ruigoord is a former village evacuated in the 60's by the municipality, which intended to extend its harbor, but the plans fell through. In 1972 the village was squatted by a group of artists who planned to make a colony there. As such it exists to this day, being legalized in the meantime. Now there are all kinds of events regularly organized in the formerly Roman Catholic village church, from poetry festivals to techno and psy parties of course through the connection to the hippie-goa trance movement.

This was my 2nd time i played there, both times we had a great party but this time i could better feel the energy of the place and people. The crowd was a rather diverse mixture of different styles, from old hippies that are a local specific, to the familiar goaheads and psyfreaks that i often see at psytrance parties, to young people probably freshly discovering this music, to mature adults that you expect to see in a movie theater, to street style looking small gangs, you name it. But all with one thing in common: the appetite to dance and have fun, putting into action the 'unity in diversity' saying, a concept that i really like. And there were a lot of true connoisseurs of the music, i can definitely say this from all the discussions and feedback i got. Not sure if it's the fact that Ruigoord has an old tradition of memorable parties, or maybe because it's an old church, or just Dutch people being so cool and social, probably a mixture of all this, but you gotta love Netherlands and Ruigoord.

First hour of the set is more groovy, 2nd goes more psychedelic. Romanian psychedelic trance DJ Latam first played music at a party in 2004 in unexpected and unplanned circumstances, going with the flow in a synchronistic situation. It was a Eureka moment which gave him a clearer sense of purpose and a new direction in life. After some years of practice and learning, encouraged by things going constantly up, he decided to give up any other business and fully commit to music as a way of living. Having a curious personality, he explored through the multitude sub-genres of electronica, for a while mixing in parallel psy, goa, progressive, techno, electro or house, in various forms. 

At present he is focusing on the groovy hypnotic side of psychedelic trance, with a versatile approach that can vary depending on the party profile, audience, location and hour, having the ability to chameleonically adapt and build bridges between different styles and tempos within the 130 to 150 BPM range. Sometimes you can hear him playing also ambient and downtempo in an eclectic chill fashion at the alternative stages. Additionally, he has an alter-ego called Fractaliceanu for faster darker psytrance, and another avatar, Melanj, with whom he ventures into deep techno territories. 

Besides DJing, Latam is involved in organizing and promoting events through Thrancians organization that he manages, plus Unda and Spacesheep associations, being a co-organizer of Waha & Rebirth festivals and a partner of Dakini festival, which featured legendary names like Juno Reactor, Astral Projection, Eat Static, Etnica & Pleiadians, Astrix, Sensient, Son Kite, X-Dream, Loud, Atmos, Psykovsky, Kindzadza, Cosmosis, Dickster, etc. 

He has performed around the world at major festivals such as Ozora, Exit, Hadra, Untold, Sziget, as well as smaller underground gatherings, numerous club parties, private events, etc., in countries like Germany, France, England, Portugal, Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Panama, Denmark, Belgium, Serbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Norway, Malta, Ukraine, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Crimea, Romania.
