More than three thousand Central American migrants are gathered today in Tijuana after traveling 4,500 kilometers; 4,500 kilometers of uncertainty, violence, discrimination and physical exhaustion. They are one step away from their final destination: seeking refuge in the United States. But their long pilgrimage in search of the minimum conditions of well-being will not end on the other side of the border, where they will need material, legal and emotional help to paddle against the current of racism and intolerance that characterize the current U.S. government.

To this day, some consequences of the international economic and military policies of the last three decades -- such as poverty, femicide, drug-trafficking violence, the proliferation of dictatorships, inequality and climate change -- continue to force thousands of people to migrate north in search of asylum. However, there is also light in this dark panorama, as the humanitarian crisis has awakened empathy and articulated support networks throughout the continent: transregional and international collaborations that manage food resources, temporary asylums and legal advice to assert the human right to seek refuge and live a life in peace.

These solidarity networks include Abolish ICE, The Central American Healing Collective, Cosecha, Cosmovisiones Ancestrales, Enclave Caracol, Pueblo Sin Fronteras, and independent organizers, who together form the Caravan Support Network. This network helps create autonomous support systems without the need for government assistance. Currently the work has focused on receiving and distributing clothing, tents, food, medical and legal assistance.

It is in this spirit that from the musical/cultural milieu we decided to initiate a project to support the victims of this crisis. 27 artists from different countries donated their work to make this compilation possible. The recovered funds will be donated in their entirety to the Caravan Support Network.

The tracks on TEARDROPS express our sentiments surrounding Black life, death, hypervisibility and refusal as we confront the reality that the club—like the rest of this world—can be a vulnerable space. TEARDROPS comes out of years experimenting with our hybrid DJ/live PA style of performing. Some of the songs are straight-to-tape recordings, others are edits we use in those same sets and one is an original track inspired directly by our experiences in the club.

Specials Worldwide is a new project started by the founders of Pacific Rhythm, New Forms Festival, and The UV amongst others. In the spirit of global collaboration, Specials Worldwide’s first release comes courtesy of Vancouver’s own ZDBT & Washington, DC’s own Dreamcast. The collaborative “On Love EP" between the producer and singer/songwriter is a musical anthology of 2019 “love in this club” anthems, featuring the lead single “Take A Chance (On Love)” and B-Side “Time For You”.

The EP is the end result of a multi-day studio session in August of 2018 when Dreamcast was invited out to Vancouver for a live show with locally based imprint Pacific Rhythm. With immediate chemistry abound, the result was “Take A Chance (On Love)”, a beautiful permutation of R&B and Techno that melds the soulful vocals of Dreamcast with the peak time Techno of ZDBT (known for his work with 1800HaightStreet on labels like Lobster Theremin). B-Side “Time For You” is a slowed down, dubbed out one-take vocal with Dreamcast featuring his soaring vocal range over moody Techno chords, resulting in another ode to the pursuit of finding love in the club.Rounding out the EP is a blissed out, Trance tinged take on “Take A Chance (On Love)” courtesy of Montreal based producer Project Pablo and an even deeper, dubbier version of “Time For You” by DJ Sports, the Danish producer and member of Århus based collective Regelbau.
