Continuing the animix series this week is one of the most passionate and talented musicians I know. Max Santilli ( @maxsant ) is a musical chameleon with an incredibly deep and diverse knowledge of music. One half of the Eora/ Sydney duo @angophora , and an avid record collector,  
max has released a beautiful range of releases under the duo and his solo project. 

The warm qualities that shine through in maxes music are reflective of his deeply humble character, and his music never fails to blow me away - beautifully tranquil and always unique.

This is an exclusive session of Vand as part of Mostra Barcelona Festival (@mostrabcn) for HOC. 
"I am on top of the castle; strategic position, checkpoint and contemplative space. The pink light comes out from behind Tibidabo and tells me that the night is approaching from the Mediterranean. Breeze with the scent of spring. The city at my feet is like a game of Micro Machines. And I, as if I were a giant, dance hypnotized the deep and essential beats of a soundscape that I never want to end."

Vand’s (@vandmusic) sets are explorations into story-telling hypnotica with a crossover from ambient to dancefloor material. With releases on Nyame Records (@nyamerecords), a double EP collaboration with Bas Dobbelaer on Something Happening Somewhere (@sohaso) and his solo appearance on Madrid based F-on’s Alpenglühen (@f-ondj), he is now mostly affiliated to the ISOTOOP collective (@isotoop), helping with the organisation of events and transmitting their unique global sonic identity.

Jo Johnson has been releasing music and organising events since the early 90s. She is a regular performer at Freerotation festival in the UK, and organises electronic music events with Bleep43 in London. Her debut solo album, Weaving, was released on Further Records in 2014 and has been described as a modern classic.  Her latest solo release, The Wave Ahead, came out earlier this year on Brooklyn-based label, Mysteries of the Deep. Jo also collaborates with pianist and composer, Hilary Robinson, and they have a live album, Session One, on 9128.live (a sub-label of A Strangely Isolated Place).

“It's been a pleasure to spend time listening to someone else’s music rather than my own! I've been writing and playing out much more this year, which has been amazing, but it's not left as much time for listening, so it's been refreshing and inspiring to delve into some of the great music that's been coming out recently. The Observatory - Jo Johnson

Brittany-based artist Tabensi, with a mosaic of sounds he's particularly fond of. 

"Multi-instrumentalist from an early age, I developed my musical universe as a dj a few years back. When I arrived in the medieval city of Dinan two years ago, I started to work on a new label called Estuary Tapes. 

Inspired by Brittany coasts, the project was born in November celebrating with a compilation gathering artists I love. It reflects my musical  influences beetween deep ambient, dub and breakbeat. In the same time I also started producing and working with electronic stuff. My first track is available on this compilation with this new alias Tabensi. 

This selection is a little piece of of my sound ecosystem recorded during a rainy tuesday afternoon. A modern story with nostalgic and ethereal feels."

“Extracting the eternal from the ephemeral” 

Hello and welcome to the 13th episode of The Best Effort Show on Skylab Radio. The number 13 is often considered unlucky. Mathematically, 12 is a perfect number and trying to improve upon that by just adding an extra digit is thought to be foolish. There were 13 people at the last supper. The basketball star Steve Nash was a two-time MVP but never won a championship - guess which number he wore on his jersey? 

There are others who choose to make their own meaning of numbers. Those people mostly consider 13 to be one of the ‘wonderful numbers’. 13 is about the abundance of the universe. 13 is about committing a moment to memory. 13 is about dreams perceived while awake or asleep.
