There’s sludge on your shoes. It’s turning them green – who left the tap on? We’re in the basement, and it’s dripping up from the floor – what’s that about? Brightens the place up a bit though.

It’s too wet in here. Let’s take a long, low ride – let the cool air seal the party emulsion across our faces as we roll down the windows to let the smoke out. The street lights flicker across you like an 808. You draw on the bass and breathe out the breaks.

The boot’s full of this sludge. We’re going to have to offload it. There’s no way we’d get it back across the border with our shoes in this state.

Stopped at the lights. Something’s leaking.

This was assembled during days of fever 452 miles from the lush garden, like a misplaced 404 error. Anti-promotion paid for by a penny placed in the mouth of Instagram to ensure safe passage over the false river.

Dublin-based Ambit kicks us off with Act Of Goodness, her impressive debut that skanks on a ‘08 dread-step tip. Fellow Dub PLUS ONE drops/raises the tempo for TRIAL, a stripped back halftime sub workout. Mid Air’s Huna seesaws a techno dancehall/d’n’b lurch with wild exploratory sound design in Lang. More Cowbell’s Eich also debuts with the mid-tempo party bass swagger of INDUCTION. Vancouver’s Destrata applies throbbing wubs and dramatic breaks on a smart 2-step break in Amphibian Barrier. Amsterdam’s Jasmín takes things on a more sinister route, delivering the technoid punk chug of Grumpy Cat. New York’s Sobolik revs up the gears with the playful ‘n’ bouncy hardcore rush of Deadly. WDDS sees us out with Slow Burner, a tense d’n’b roller that itches with junglist rinse-out fervour for a proper finale.

In the darkness they prepared themselves for the battle ahead. What little resources they had left they stockpiled in a safe place, guarded by those who were considered too weak to fight on the field. As soon as the sun reared its head on the horizon, the enemy would soon be on the move and time would be against them. Rumours had reached them that the opposition's army far outweighed their own but they had something to fight for that the others didn't; this battle was for everyone, it was for humanity. 

In June Brighton-based Scotsman Kutkh Jackdaw contributed a dark, industrial rhythmic cut to Medellin-based label Sonidos Subterraneos' compilation Estado De Golpe, a release aimed at raising awareness of and rejecting all forms of abuse, with profits being donated to social work causes. As a follow up to the track, Kutkh invited fellow Brighton producer Movement to put his own spin on it, and that he did, twisting the original into a heady 2-step remix that calls to mind artists and labels of the pre-dubstep era like El-B, Horsepower Productions and Digital Mystikz.

London's @djcoefroms11 heads on to @all-centre-504822953 this month with his next three-track EP 'Pressure Makes Diamante' landing on August 26.

'Lemonade Spaces' settles into a precise half-time rhythm. Atmospheric pads open the track before ushering in punchy bass hits, stuttering hats and a hypnotic arpeggiated melody. The track breaks down amongst huge, soaring synths before throwing us back into an arresting groove dictated by booming kicks and rolling snares.

Finishing off @henzotrax’s banner 2022 that has seen releases on YCO and Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, the Manchester-based producer dials back the tempo into dive cuts of gloom-ridden dancefloor damagers for his @nervoushorizon debut. Running the gamut of dancehall, techno and drum 'n' bass, the EP’s refined palette is laser-guided in its intention of favouring groove and atmosphere over melody and hooks.

Rounding out Stretford Blues, 'A Pocket You Didn’t Expect' feels like 3 tempos at once: 82, 164 and 328BPM. The battering, unrelenting kicks laced over taut breaks and hats hark to Jungle Techno and Tech Step in their composition, but the drawn out and bleak orchestral breakdown, coupled with a barking, irate bassline, suggest that Henzo shows no allegiance to nostalgia and is moving intently into the future.

Peder Mannerfelt returns with a heavy-duty payload precision engineered for pure peak time abandon. ‘Town Crier’ is a no-nonsense banger dealing in mutant techno with evil intent and enough low-end rumble to fell a forest - it’s Mannerfelt at his most direct and deadly.
  
Alongside the slamming original mix of ‘Town Crier’ come two equally potent versions from Mount Kimbie’s Kai Campos and Atlanta’s rapidly-rising production polymath Nikki Nair. Both tracks hold fast to the laser focus of the original, completing a package that makes a beeline for the feverish end of the dance, when only the wildest tracks will suffice.
