Of all the years, 2025 has been one of them...

Musically, it's been a period of refreshment, reflection, and shifting perspectives. Living here in Glasgow for the past year and everything that's done to and for me, I can't help but reflect on the past that built me into who I am. These tunes I've taken a crack at reworking all reflect certain moments of my life, some of which are more significant to me now than they were at the time. 

Each edit is my effort to capture these feelings and translate them into drum & bass. There's so much crossover between hip-hop & dnb that hasn't yet been explored, and I am constantly driven by the need to fuse the two. Not because no one has, but because no one has like me (there's that hip-hop bravado).

Anyway, on the technical side of things, the usual process of finding the original samples, recreating the loops, and dropping in bits of the vocal to taste 🥘

Sometimes all you crave is some pumping house music, and burgeoning Glaswegian producer James Vox delivers exactly that, with style and intent. Inspired by the mid-’00s sound of labels like Soma Records, it was only a matter of time before his demos found their way to Silicone Soul’s grateful ears and onto Darkroom Dubs.

But these traxx are no simple homage. On Pressure, ’70s Kingston meets with Slam’s legendary club night uptown for a late-night jam, packed with Trojan-era toasting and a massive Reese-style bassline, built for darkrooms and peak moments. Second track, Clouds, motions into deeper territory, but there’s no let-up in pace or vibe. With a killer breakdown, it delivers undistilled, pure house joy. Then, closing the EP, Let It Go lands sweetly between the twin pillars of house and techno, blending Detroit-tinged electronics with the unmistakable energy of a Love Sensation-age Loleatta Holloway.

Unbridled, club-primed, and ready to ride into the festive season, James Vox’s productions have already caught the attention of Karotte, Radio Slave, and Harvey McKay. As a debut, it’s an impressive statement, channelling the Darkroom Dubs spirit with precision.

Biography
Empirical as a hard sip spilling from a discharged battery. There is always a nihilistic fetish in these youngsters dealing with technology. Stefano Martino, aka R A S H, is never hiding this darkest side in his composition. His machinery becomes a ritual object within which his human state becomes an algorithmic begging of change making its appearance at warm 50 hertz complacency.

His sound exploration is elaborated through decadent, post-industrial soundscapes inscribing the full failure of a consumer society which noise becomes an evidence whilst its awareness is modelled, reworked within a dystopian hexavalent chromium taste, blended into the future.
