We welcome back one of our own hometown heroes, Jonathan Kaspar. Through holding down a residency at the fabled Gewölbe club, to releases on Pets Recordings, Objektivity, Ouïe and our own KX imprint, Jonathan Kaspar has proved to be one of the most exceptionally gifted producers and DJ’s to emerge from Cologne in recent time.

Though the clubs have remained closed since he came to us with his Kompakt debut “Kante”, his inspiration clearly remains unwavered with “Muster EP”. An acid tinged groove throbs to incredible momentum on the title track “Muster”. Follow the heartbeat with “Alle” as Jonathan brings the electro funk forward with his first foray into using his own vocals. A French touched rumble bass gives “Beton” all the flow and more for those early hour moments we all are craving again. The closer “Heber” is a classic opener – a subtle percussion rhythm gets built around sky high synths and a sweet house high hat to warm up any night.

The digital version comes with a stripped down version of Beton!

Time to welcome the return of Echonomist to TAU, as the prolific Greek producer comes through with a four track selection from his audio lab. Echonomist exudes versatility, with a discography that includes a wide range of styles, demonstrating his ability to explore different genres with confidence and flair. His last appearance on TAU was a collab with the label heads Adana Twins which hit No.1 in the Beatport Indie Dance chart. He’s also recently been releasing with Innervisions, as well as Kompakt. Echonomist has honed his sound, striking a delicate balance between emotion and rhythm, injecting authentic feeling into unadulterated dance floor moments...

 ‘Pothos’ (featuring Mr. Lookman on the guitar), another cut that merges a live band feel with electronic influences. The extended intro feels like a live on stage jam with guitarists and drummers hyping up the crowd. At just over 2 minutes 30, Echonomist introduces vintage synths, which take us back in time a few decades. As the track progresses, his playful approach produces electrifying moments of tension and release that make this one a special cut indeed.

“Let it Burn” es el primer sencillo en ser extraído del LP “The Big Picture”, nuevo largo del experimentado productor valenciano AFFKT. Este, que será su tercer álbum de estudio, verá la luz a finales del verano a través del mítico sello alemán Mobilee.

Para este primer envite AFFKT cuenta con Sutja Gutierrez (The Frushtucks) como vocalista invitado. No es la primera vez que trabajan a la par. Por ejemplo, en el anterior LP “Son of a Thousand Sounds” (Sincopat, 2016), ya hicieron juntos “The Show” y “Someone in the Sky”. La simbiosis entre ambos artistas (y amigos) funciona realmente bien.

AFFKT propone en su LP “The Big Picture” cohesionar en más de una docena de canciones su creatividad sin estar eso reñido con un mar de sensaciones personales. Buenas vibraciones que vienen de perlas para los tiempos que corren. Por otro lado, encontraremos su álbum electrónico más abierto y ecléctico publicado hasta la fecha. Imantando además nuevos conceptos y géneros inspirados en su vida personal, que también por la ‘pausa’ forzada que todos nos imaginamos.

“'Let It Burn” es una de las primeras canciones que salieron del nuevo disco por lo que está cocinada con cuidado y a fuego lento;una composición en la que intenté crear un equilibrio de estilos y quedarme a medio camino entre el Indie y el Eletroclash, géneros musicales que me influyeron mucho cuando empecé a hacer música a mediados/finales de los 90. Personalmente, la siento como una de las canciones más completas que he hecho junto a mi buen amigo y vocalista favorito Sutja Gutiérrez; es una canción directa que busca la sencillez y las formas perfectas. Sus letras que por lo general se encuentran entre la luz y la oscuridad encajan perfectamente con el concepto del álbum.” Nos confiesa AFFKT.

La salida del primer sencillo "Let it Burn", donde se fusiona el techno vanguardista con el indie dance y sonidos new wave, incluye una versión dub además de una remezcla a cargo del argentino  Santiago Garcia.

Tribal, booming beats set the scene for this dark journey through modulating, layered sounds, broken beats, and warped vocals; the listener is transported to a post apocalyptic industrial dance floor, where sweet glimpses of “Humalogy” remain…

The World, as we know it, has changed. A routine rethought has allowed time to create. With borders closed and friends isolated from one another, our ‘40 Days In Quarantine’ series has invited artists to connect us all together once more via the power of music, as we live out this surreal and dystopian period. 

Borders Of Light’s boss, Toto Chiavetta, delivers our first installment - three tracks characterizing and capturing the varying emotions felt whilst confined by himself in Italy. It touches against the chaotic, the calm and the positive - emotions we have all been battling with over the past weeks. It shows the testament of the human mind and the strength and emotions we have all been experiencing. 

Suheir Hammad - What I Will (Toto Chiavetta Liaisons Dangereuses - 326 Michigan Ave Edition): A nostalgic battlecry

Polishing off the release is a penned tribute to two of Toto’s inspirations - Ron Hardy and Liaisons Dangereuses. Hardy was one of the purveyors of house music in Chicago in the 80s, and as a resident at The Music Box (address 326 Michigan Avenue) in the city, he would often play music from the equally innovative and unconventional German band. 

‘What I Will’ combines elements regularly expressed by both artists with a poem spoken by Suheir Hammad placed on top. The words are a feisty piece of art - a battlecry of rebelling against what’s considered the societal norm of thinking. In the background, bright harmonic chords beam through to form the uplifting groove, as raw hi-hats daze in for a classic disco structure: an element quintessential to and continually showcased in early house music. Coming to its peak, the line ‘I will dance and resist’ are looped repeatedly - highlighting a strengthed state of mind. Nearing the end, industrial-sounding elements inspired by Liaisons Dangereuses take their place for a punchier approach.

Seamlessly blending together a sense of tact with soulful sentimentality, driven by the powerful words of Hammad, ‘What I Will’ is a vigorous reminder of our own fighting spirit, and that we are stronger than we know right now.

'Belgian disco savants Rheinzand return with the second in a triptych of remix EPs. This one follows Obey Remixes, which came out Nov 6. 

Kills & Kisses, the original track, comes off Rheinzand’s 2019 self-titled album and has been out as a single as well. The track was one of the more propulsive on the album with an almost micro-house sounding groove, driving down low, blossoming up top. 

This bundle of remixes flow from that vein, expanding on the house angle of Rheinzand’s sound through the work of three fantastic artists.'
