Kelowna, British Columbia – Rachel Geek (Rachel Gieck) unveils her first fully realized original house inspired, '2023 Shambhala live Mix'. This mix is not just a collection of top house beats; it's an all original production that represents her personal growth and mental rejuvenation, symbolizing the turning point to her new found journey in both her life and music.

 

"In 2019, my Shambhala journey wasn't just a set, it was a curated odyssey. From the warmth of a friend's generosity to the beats echoing freely in my car, and the clandestine rhythms hidden in a secret attic above an office – every location shaped the sonic tapestry of that unforgettable year. Music isn't just heard; it's lived, felt, and woven into the very spaces that embrace its magic."
 

From Challenges to Triumph: The Story Behind the Beats

Her 2023 Shambhala live Mix (performed on the Amp stage on Sunday) is more than just a musical venture; it's a narrative of resilience. Rachel's journey has been one of introspection and challenge, marked by her collaboration with a renowned production teacher who she greatly admired. "It's been an enlightening path," Rachel shares. "Having my work critiqued, undergoing intense coaching, and learning to trust this process was daunting, yet it paved the way for tremendous personal and artistic growth."

This mix is a testament to Rachel's perseverance. "There were moments of doubt," she admits, "but my mentor assured me – follow the program, and the results will come. And they did. Despite the sweltering heat at Shambhala, I delivered one of my most memorable performances. You can feel that energy in this mix."

 

A Journey of Musical Evolution

Rachel's evolution is evident in her transition from tense tunes to the rhythmic pulse of house music. Inspired by artists like Kaytranada, she found solace and expression in this genre. "Discovering house music was a turning point for me. It became my canvas for healing and expression, it also inspired me to dye my hair blonde as per my friend and therapists suggestion”, Rachel reflects. 

The mix also mirrors Rachel's personal transformation, symbolized by her bold decision to cut and dye her hair blonde. "This change isn't just physical. It represents my journey towards embracing change and essentially learning how to grow up and put the past behind me” she explains.

Rachel's experience at Shambhala, interacting with other artists and the community, has been pivotal. “Having the opportunity to witness female artists like Whipped Cream and Nostalgix perform live and up close has been one of the most inspiring moments of my life. Thanks to Shambhala It pushed me far enough out of my comfort zone that I moved provinces and took a job working with displaced youth. That journey alone inspires me to continue on my road to recovery and wellness everyday” she concludes.

Harvest Festival holds a special place in my heart as the first camping festival I ever went to, the place where I met my forever love, made countless friendships and where I first hosted a We Met Dancing workshop.

This set was entirely unplanned (other than the first and last song)and represents a truly divine energy exchange between myself and the dancefloor. Me Time is a state of flow I enter when I feel truly connected to the space and free to express myself. It opened up a musical portal to explore different moods, genres and nostalgia - through house, techno, breaks, hip hop, trance, dubstep, bassline, afrobeat and beyond. 

This is my gift to Harvest - to the land and the dancers who keep the magic alive year after year. Thank you Justin, David and Irving for inviting me to open Crystal6 - a memorable way to start a beautiful Saturday night under the light of the Harvest Moon.

People say never trust a skinny chef, Me Time says never trust a DJ who doesn’t dance. 

Fresh off her festival debuts at Tomorrowland Belgium, Hyperborea and Harvest Festival, Me Time has become a local favourite known for genre-mashing and perfectly-time dancefloor stormers. From headlining underground parties in Toronto to selling out her monthly dance parties EveryBody and Bass Witch, she is a champion of safer spaces that celebrate sobriety and moderation, promote diverse underrepresented artists and hold intentional space for all bodies to move freely.

Last year, Me Time founded Selecta School to create a safer learning environment that nurtures the selecta within all of us. Offering workshops for all skill levels, Me Time is excited to share her knowledge and experience as a working DJ with aspiring selectors and make this art form more inclusive and accessible. 

She’s the antidote to all that dude-in-a-black-tshirt-smoking-a-cigarette minimal-tech shit. No, this isn’t the music for wall-leaning, drink-sipping, head-bobbing and small talk, this is bass house for booty-shaking, drink-spilling, sweat-dripping, and of course, showing off new dance moves!

Me Time is bringing you from the couch to the club for all the juicy fun of a living room dance party, without the rug burn.
