BODYLEPSIS is a compilation album in response to austerity, tories and anti-rave bills. It is Rave as-Protest, a visceral expression of disdain for the current political climate, outrage through noise, a poetic communal uproar; a strong artistic recording of our current cultural landscape. It demands a hijack of spaces and ourselves to recentre the people at the heart of hardcore. It's an outline of our ethos: anti-corporation and anti-copshavinglimbs.

This release figures rave as ritual, as a form of protest; losing yourself in the rave is the dissolution of the body as encumbrance, world, and prison that protest aims to produce, a rave is a riot. The rave is inexorably a reaction to material conditions, contemporary politics of space, expression, atomic collision of subversive noise pollution and the sanitised, enforced sonic landscape of the capitalist metropolis, a space figuring the dancefloor as a space, of not an escape from; but confrontation with, suffering, in pursuit of not some abstract catharsis but material change, a soundclash against suffering.

The 36th release of katharsis is the EP “be there” by Belgian artist leop4rdi, coming out on September 4th. Throughout its six tracks, the artist shows off his unique blend of granular synths, etheric vocals, emo guitar riffs, and smashing rocky drums. This infusion of his cute kitsch vibes with obscure spiritual icons and cryptic intelligence results in a unique aesthetic represented on the artwork created by label boss jjjacob.

The EP is the second full release by the Brussel-based artist, following his stellar EP “a process of learning and understanding” on the magnificent label and collective Soul Feeder in January this year. His alternative approach and very personal style shine through on “be there” as well, the titles of the tracks representing intuitive associations from the artist's mind.

Three singles were premiered prior to the full release, "Out Of My Skin" - a beautiful sonic journey of emotive acoustic guitar, bit-crushed vocal wails, playful synths, and powerful percussion, secondly the downtempo & bouncy though aggressively distorted track "Focus!" with a feel of melancholic overtones and struggling attention, and thirdly the deeply melancholic ballad "Essence" starting with acoustic guitar chords and poignant vocal chops but ending with hard drums and overdriven synths.
