Evolving from the fabric of the quintessential British council estate to global festival stages, Simon Apex is a driving force in dance music evolution. A ‘90s rave pioneer and pirate radio mainstay, he helped introduce harder styles of EDM to the U.S. and co-created the Breaks & Bass sound fueling today’s Drum & Bass scene.

Discovered by Insomniac’s Pasquale Rotella, Simon became a fixture at festivals like EDC and Nocturnal Wonderland. He co-founded Shrine Studios with Grammy legend Bonzai Caruso and launched ViBE 99.7FM—the #1 FM dance station in the U.S.

In 2023, he partnered with Dolby to build the first dedicated Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio studio for dance music and in 2024 joined Dolbys Spatial Audio Development Team for the applications of spatial audio for live performance reshaping how dance music is produced and experienced.

House. In all its forms. From a desert sunrise to an underground party, club, or festival stage, I have one job, one intention--to deliver what you didn't know you wanted until I give it to you. May I never lose track of the essence of what I do--that I'm playing music for friends, whether it's 40 friends or 4,000. 

Of all the art forms, music is the one that offers the experience of primordial energy in its original state, as a wave. When we see or touch things, we're experiencing the wave collapsed into matter (stuff of the 3D realm, the maya). Music digs deep in our beings because we directly experience the wave, the medium of the universe.

I've been all in since the late '90s. From 2000 to 2006, my partner and I produced events in Los Angeles that elevated the underground with Funk Hollywood and the clubs with Honey. And Sweet Thing, Soul Purpose, Will Spin for Food, the house room at Avalon, and EM Sundays all branched from those. We lifted house music out of the "house room" and the filthy warehouse, and we gave it the quality of sound systems, environment, art and comfort deserving of house heads. The house music crowd is family.
