Terence Fixmer - Depth Charged
Over the past two decades, French producer and live performer, Terence Fixmer, has continued to evolve as an artist while maintaining his influential stance in international techno culture. With his last solo album, Comedy of Menace, already five years behind us, his continuous evolution has led him to produce his most introspective album yet. With this 10-piece composition Fixmer is able to tell a story from start to finish, with powerful, deep, dark, pulsating tones that are essential to his musical approach.

Depth Charged is a complete concept as Fixmer’s track arrangement takes the audience through various emotions illustrating how there is more to darkness than the dance floor. Beginning with a slow but heavy bassline, “Ellipse” acts as a perfect introduction setting the attitude for the album. “Fleeting Beauty” brings us fluttering chords amidst a serpentine drone, while the rolling bass of “Unforeseen” sends you into a trancelike state. “Purity” distracts the listener with its raw analog warmth filled with extraterrestrial energy. “Inside of Me,” exclusively selected by Marcel Dettmann for his Fabric 77 mix, followed by “Outside of Me” are both very dark tracks, filled with atmospheric suspense and quaking rhythms. “Beyond” is a pure exemplary of Fixmer’s signature style with an infectious progression sending anyone to the dance floor as “Pallid Light” follows its footsteps filling a bit more radiance into a modern techno sound. “Thoughts” shows another emotion of the album with deeper dub-like sonorities leading to the final track.

Concluding the odyssey is “Elevation,” the most melodic track of the album, beautifully deep, undulating and atmospheric, it is a breath of fresh air that brings one back to reality. Fixmer’s productions have drawn the attention to stimulate individuals in other artistic mediums, as the track was an exclusive selection of Raf Simons to showcase his works for Dior at the CFDA-Awards. Raf has been a very big supporter of Fixmer’s work since his first album in 2001, Muscle Machine.

Passionate of profound mystifying tones that rise and fall, Depth Charged is the epitome of unique expressiveness for Terence Fixmer. With darkness as a companion, each track has come from deep inside the soul; uncompromised soundscapes that promote taking risks.

METODI HRISTOV: Live at Egg London mix + interview

After his set on May 23rd, we caught up with Bulgarian based Metodi Hristov, talking about his exclusive mix recorded live at Egg, what he got up to whilst here in London, and what to expect from him in the not to distant future.

Hi Metodi, how are you today - what have you been up to since your set at Egg? 

 Hellooo :D I'm happy! After my gig at Egg London I traveled back home and started to work on a remix for Noir Music and the weekend after I was on a little tour in Russia. 

The mix is great and it was recorded right here at Egg! What was the idea behind your set that night?  

Thank you! It may sound trite, but the idea was to show myself through the music, like on every one of my gigs. I like the variety and always try to mix the tracks very fast and not to bore the people with long similarly sounding phrases. I’m also always trying to show a lot unheard and unique sounding tunes, tunes that you can't find on soundcloud or beatport. The main idea was to show something really different :)  

Are there any tunes in the mix that people should be looking out for? 

 I'm very proud with the fact, that I always play 50 - 60 % of my own music in my mixes including a lot unreleased material. In the mix you can hear upcoming tunes for labels like Defected, Terminal M, Noir Music, Toolroom Rec., Deeperfect Rec., Knee Deep, Material, Suruba, King Street, Kinetika, Be one Rec. and more. So stay tuned, big things are coming up very soon! :)

How did you find Egg more generally? 
Egg is one of the best clubs that I've ever played! The atmosphere, the crowd and the entire Egg crew… It was an amazing night, maybe because there were a lot of friends with me. It was really the perfect night for me!

Did you do anything else fun while you were in London? 

Yes, we had a lot of fun. I was travelling with my girlfriend and my brother and I also met so many friends. We had a really good time in London.

Finally what plans have you got for summer in terms of releases, gigs and personally?

I’m really looking forward to my South American tour in August. I'm going to stay about a month there and I'm very excited about it. Also many gigs in Europe and Asia are coming up, a lot releases for the labels that I’ve mentioned before and a lot collaborations with some of my favorite artists like Shosho, Gallya , Stefano Noferini and many more. But the biggest thing that I’m looking forward is the launch of my first label, together with Gallya and my agent Marin in the end of this year.

Techno/ HardTechno producer, live act and DJ Leo Laker was born 1980 in Espoo, Finland. He grew up listening to all kinds of different music, from heavy metal to electronic music and jazz. He started making his own music at the age on 13 with Amiga's ProTracker software, composing first game and demo music. About two years later, after getting more into listening to techno and house, he bought his first decks and started learning DJ'ing. First he played mostly in discos and parties organized with his friends, trying different styles like goatrance and house. 
After hearing Jeff Mills' legendary set from Liquid Room Tokyo and the early stuff from Swedish producers like Adam Beyer and Cari Lekebusch, he got more into buying techno records and shortly after started producing his own tracks. In 1996 he sent a c-cassette with couple of tracks to Berlin based Tresor records. They liked what he had sent and asked for some more, first planning to release few tracks on a compilation, but then decided for a solo EP. Leo's debut "6am." was released in 1998, receiving very positive reviews and launching his recording career. 
In 2001 after constantly searching for harder sounds, he created a second alias, Switchblade and released "Switched To Blades EP" on 4X4 records which is considered being one of the first records that shaped the new HardTechno/Schranz sound and Switchblade as one of the pioneers of the style. 
To date, Leo has released more than 30 EP's, plus numerous tracks and remixes for other artists. As a DJ and live act, he's played all around the world and worked with many of the biggest artists in the HardTechno scene, most notably his productions and live performance act with the Polish artist Tomash Gee. 
Leo has his own hardtechno/techno label LKRMusic, and is actively searching and releasing works from both known and upcoming artists. 
Recently we had the pleasure to release Leo Laker’s EP ¨ Ghoul¨ on AudioCode Records. All his original tracks from the EP you will find in his exclusive mix for AudioCode Podcast. So, turn up the volume, and enjoy it loud!

Biography :
As one of the fundamental pillars of Portugal’s Techno scene, Ninna V has been rocking the decks for over 28 years - playing her own brand of dark and sweaty techno .
She held her first residency at Cais 447 Club in 1992, while swiftly assuming several other residencies during the country's Techno infancy. In the Mid 90's, she founded one of the Portugal’s first DJ booking agencies aptly named “Beyond the Agency “. She used this to represent herself along with renowned global acts and the country’s best talent, playing alongside some of the industry’s most respected names such as: Dave Clark, A. Paul, Advent, Gayle San, Marika Rossa, Electrorites, Shin Nishimura, , Roger Sanchez, David Alvarado and many more.

Ninna V has produced tunes on a plethora labels for 10 years including De-Konstruct,Illegal Alien, Naked Lunch, Dolma Records, Elektrax, Eternal Drive, Different is Different and more.
In May of 2014, her track "Cause" (Sergio Vilas remix) was played out by none other than the Big Boss himself, Carl Cox, live in NYC.
Current production plans include countless remix projects, future vinyl releases, and collaborations with other notable artists for 2022 and beyond.

Her music has been played by Carl Cox, Ben Sims, Tom Hades, Paul Mac, Dave Clarke, Rebekah, Spartaque, Rodhad, L.A.W. and more around the world and at their podcasts.

Ninna V’s intricate DJ skills and productions have taken her all over Portugal and the world to locales like: South Africa, Malta, London, Zurich, Spain, Detroit and Los Angeles - where she has played for crowds in the hundreds and thousands.

Whether she is playing her own industrial-flavored techno or producing tunes canned by some of the world’s best jocks, rest assured Ninna V is sure to get the dance floor moving!
