House Sets

Phats and Small consists of two experienced DJ's from Brighton, England: Jason Phats and Russel Small. Phats and Small are of course well known for their huge hit Turn Around that achieved the number 2 position on the UK charts in early 1999.

Phats and Small both worked as DJ's at Brighton's famous Zap Club in the early 90's. Phats started producing his own music in 1992 and set up a label called Afro Cuts, releasing disco house tracks before he started collaborating with Small.

Phats and Small have remixed, among others, for Simply Red, Earth Wind & Fire and the Lighthouse Family, as well as countless of their own underground releases and bootlegs. They are also well known for caning it with the best of them, frequently while behind the decks.

Bonjour tout le monde ! Des mois que vous nous la demandez, des semaines qu’on la peaufine, voici la nouvelle DECADE MIXTAPE !

Carte postale d’une époque et véritable madeleine de Proust, cette fois-ci direction les années 90 pour plus d’une heure de musiques et d’actualités qui ont rythmé la décennie ; de l’arrivée du Bi-Bop (premier téléphone mobile) aux prémices de l’Union Européenne en passant par la crainte du bug de l’an 2000… 

Ce concept n’aurait certainement jamais vu le jour sans le travail du duo australien Flight Facilities qui nous ont inspirés en réalisant plusieurs mixtapes en anglais sur le même thème. Nous voulions, à notre tour, proposer ce format avec un regard plus personnel sur cette 
époque et une dimension francophone qui nous tient à coeur.

Merci également au français SIMS Samples qui marie avec brio samples d’origines et productions de hip-hop des années 90 mis à l’honneur dans notre nouvelle mixtape.

Pleased to upload this DJ Phats DJ set using 4 decks and effects. Recorded on the afternoon of 5th December 2012 to 1/2" tape and run through the Manley Massive Passive with some added 3K9 for that extra "analogue polish"
I grabbed a crate of records, fired up the 1/2 tape machine, dimmed the lights in the studio and laid this down on the fly ...... The result is a subtle mix up of genres, with a warm punch, and a big bottom end.
