Brooklyn-based deejay and producer MentPlus is excited to announce the release of his debut instrumental EP, Stormy Nights. The 6-track effort gives listeners a variety of sounds that are based on his long history as a beat-battle producer, and party starter in the Tri-state area.
 
In the past, Ment has relied on emcees to help validate his production, but he’s looking to make music that can stand on its own. “Often times various projects I've created got shelved or lost in the noise because the lack of promotional efforts,” says Ment. “My mistake for years has been waiting in limbo for artists to do something with the beats I send them, but now I’m switching gears. I’m investing in myself instead of holding out for someone else,“ he concludes. 
 
From the brisk opener, “Whispering” to the J Dilla inspired slapper, “Dillacation,” Nights celebrates Ment’s focus on becoming an instrumentalist. Inspired by the likes of The RZA, Diamond D, DJ Premier, Madlib, and Flying Lotus, the EP serves as a commencement of his revived musical direction.

When he was crafting the EP, MentPlus wanted to add his own sound into the fold. “There’s a lot of producers who want to make songs without words, but I’m trying to establish myself as an instrumentalist, a producer, and a deejay. Stormy Nights is my way of conveying my own sound while giving everyone a beat they can really sink their teeth into.” 
MentPlus’ goal with Stormy Nights and the rest of his work are centered on supporting local talent; he also wishes today’s acts experiment with the tools used by the greats instead of relying on new technology. “Vinyl is forever, whereas your hard drive will probably crash. If you master the fundamentals, you’ll never worry about the fads and trends that that’ll come up.”
 
The project has already caught the attention of famed DJ and producer HouseShoes, as well as various tastemakers in the music industry and will be released through High Water Music, on September 23. The EP will serve as a prequel to a full 20 track instrumental LP, set to drop shortly after. Here comes the fourth teaser for the 25 years Compost anniversary 10x12” – box-set. And what a stellar one. First of all, Lorenz Rhode “Back” in a Purple Disco Machine remix. The original was a 12” B-side hidden gem, released 2007 on Compost, but it caused a worldwide stir and became a true worldwide underground hit in the break dance scene. Dozens of break dancers, crews and schools used “Back” for their break dance rehearsals. We have cut a nice video of ca. 20 dancers and crews, which we found on YouTube, showing their amazing moves and grooves with “Back” in background. And to top that: Purple Disco Machine lays his funky disco hands onto it! 2018 was the year for Purple Disco Machine with four of the biggest dance tracks, with almost a few hundred million streams, various No 1 charts hits and as a high point: #2 “Beatport Artist Of All Time”. Nuff said.

Liquid Phonk’s “Starwalk” is a wonderful blax-ploited disco-house ride. It’s one of Michael Reinboth’s favorite tracks of the 25 years anniversary 10x12” box set (out of 42 tracks). Another hit maker brings down a round figure: Spiller, do you remember his world hit “Groovejet” from 2000, he gave the Trüby Trio “Make A Move” a kinda 80’s ska-disco skank groove. Very funny uplifting. Enjoy.

Brand new Bastard Jazz signing Buscrates comes out of the gate swinging with his first release for the label full of the bubbling, electronic funk he's become known for. "Lost & Found" features the vocal talents of Sally Green over a slappin' bassline, guitar licks and airy synths while "Cruise Control" goes on an instrumental ride with it's heavy drums, catchy g-funk lead and growling bass. Neo funk rising star Buscrates aims high with Blasting Off, his 
first full-length album. The Pittsburgh-based keyboard 
cosmonaut has been grabbing ears since his days hooking up 
beats with the hip hop crew East Liberty Quarters, but after 
slinging spicy one-offs to a slew of hot labels like Omega 
Supreme, Voyage Funktastique and Razor N Tape (as well as 
contributing production to Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y’s 2009 
project), the time has come for a full-length featuring his 
growing modern funk repertoire. 
“I’m a ‘90s hip hop dude, but I grew up on that ‘80s funk stuff,” 
Buscrates acknowledges. DJ gigs provided a working 
knowledge of the jams that moved a contemporary crowd, and 
as his collection of keyboards and drum machines grew he 
began blending the best of both decades with his personal 
futuristic edge. “I was nice on the MPC but I wanted to have a 
little more dynamic range with what I was doing,” he notes. The 
self-described “certified synth geek” was soon branching into 
sounds that recalled ‘80s legend Kashif crossed with the hip 
hop bounce of DJ Spinna, and the modern funk community took 
notice. 

For his first full-length, Buscrates has crewed up with an ace 
team of collaborators, featuring vocalist Sally Green on the 
bouncy lead single “Lost And Found” and “Eight Nine.” Kate 
Moe Dee takes over mic duties for the second single, “How Ya 
Gonna Do It,” a slinky groove that slides in place alongside 
groups like the Sunburst Band and Rene & Angela as an 
exemplar of sophisticated R&B. Adding to those credentials are 
the sultry vocals of Anda on “Believe,” but of course, it wouldn’t 
be a Buscrates set without some stank, neck-snapping 

instrumentals. “Five Days” and “Sure Shot,” both collabos with 
the drum technician DJ Epik, will rattle speakers and have 
already been lighting up message boards on recent Buscrates 
DJ sets. Round things out with some easy gliding, jazzy funk 
(“Turn It Out” with Brothermartino on flute and “Evergreen” 
featuring Tony Ozier) and you’ve got all the ingredients for a 
high-flying cosmic ride with Buscrates at the controls.

You don't mess around when labeling someone as a musical pioneer; it’s a dangerous path to tread. When it comes to the name DJ Nu-Mark however, it’s a safe bet.
As a Los Angeles native, Producer, Turntablist and member of the legendary Hip-Hop group Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark is considered one of the most innovative on the scene. He continually showcases his expanding taste in music through live sets and dj streams where he displays rare covers, multi-track edits and performs his children’s musical toy set.
Nu-Mark ignited his career releasing Kanye West’s debut production with Chicago native, Grav on Correct Records while simultaneously producing the Jurassic 5 EP circa 1996. Nu caught solo acclaim with the drop of his industry celebrated Blend Crafters EP which featured his timeles cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and featured production for MF Doom. Nu’s debut LP, Broken Sunlight revealed his innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heartfelt music featuring Aloe Blacc, Quantic, Large Professor, Bumpy Knuckles, A-Skillz, J-Live
Tiron & Ayomari, and Charles Bradley.
It comes as no surprise when you see the list of coveted stages that Nu-Mark has performed on around the world, including Glastonbury and Coachella. As per his stellar reputation of being one of turntablism and sound design, Nu-Mark has also judged numerous DJ competitions including Red Bull Music Thre3style with Jazzy Jeff, DJ Craze, Skratch Bastid and many more.
You can also add in Nu-Mark's own label – Hot Plate Records, which has released a hoard of production collaborations, including his sought after Run For Cover LP in 2021 featuring Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, Full Crate, Jungle Fire, The Traffic and more. Nu brought along Pharcyde’s Slimkid3 under the
faction TRDMRK on two albums featuring Del the Funky Homosapien, Diamond D, Darondo, Guilty Simpson, and Murs which shot to number one on the CMJ charts.
Nu-Mark's ongoing “Zodiac Tracks” is further testament to the fact that music is a life blood for this man. With his unwavering adoration of vinyl, the renowned collector pays homage
to pivotal artists by mixing them seamlessly in their respective astrological sign in live Birthday tribute videos. The project has been so successful that, after reaching millions of views, Nu- Mark teamed up with Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan) for an exclusive song to honor all the astrological signs in a song called “Zodiac Killah”.
Nu has a keen eye for musical evolution. Known for his trademark ability to conjure up sounds from the most bizarre of items, including a collection of children’s toys, late night talk show host and producer James Corden enlisted Nu-Mark to take on the role of in-house DJ for the hit TV show –
Drop The Mic.
To date, Nu-Mark has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries / motion pictures; Scratch, KeepinTime, Where We’re From, Coachella: The Movie, Rock the Bells, Popstar and MacGrubber.
