It’s our pleasure to welcome back @sentientsound, this time for a stunning SoundSculptors live set, the seventh episode of this series. His live set definitely pulls the listener deeply into the vortex with it’s dissonant abyssal drones and powerful drum patterns. He created a special mixture of half time and drumandbass, while varying the kick patterns strongly, sometimes even dipping into ambient where he even implemented his guitar. Punctually perfectly dosed distortion marks the intense sound signature of Sentient.

London-based dubstep, drum and bass, experimental bass and ambient music producer & DJ, Sentient, has carved himself a niche in bass music with crushing, genre-spanning soundscapes, moving fluidly between various styles and sounds.
Inspired by horror game soundtracks with heavy, crushing atmospheres, his love of classical and hardcore music, and the idea of dissociation and abstraction from the everyday, Sentient’s distinctive sound fuses these influences resulting in a mesmerising blend of gloomy and oppressive sonic landscapes that aim to move the listener to an intangible plain outside of their field of vision.

For their debut EP on Tectonic, Beatrice M. drops four deep, dubby cuts bringing weighted bass energy together with techno sensibilities and advanced percussive manoeuvers. Elegant but powerful tracks built for sound systems and curious ears!

Midnight Swim is an ode to the “softer” club sounds, repetitive aquatic grooves that remind Beatrice of their go-to sport: swimming. No phones, just back and forth in the cold water, settling into a mechanical groove. The opening track, Oval, carries its title from the appreciation of soft edges, little distortion, minimal rhythmic pattern.

Upon hearing Pinch’s tune 136 Trek, (itself a nod to Zinc’s 138 Trek), Beatrice decided to name a tune 132 Trek, to continue the lineage of their musical heritage. The tune was already called Trek because it was made after spending some months in London, and realising “everything is a bloody trek”!! 

The EP’s title track is about warm-up music and enjoying the earlier hours of the party - a quick immersion and then time for bed, rather than banging club tracks all night long. Beatrice likes to show up early at the club, watch it fill and then leave as it packs out. Midnight Swim is a dip into a roller. 

The last tune of the EP features Sub Basics, the first artist to have a vinyl release on Beatrice’s own label, Bait, and one of their biggest musical inspirations. Sub Basics’ immersive progressive sounds fit simultaneously in the deep techno world and the dubstep world. A beautiful in-between.

Tracing a path through low end tension and flickering textures, Liniae delivers a narrative suspended between clarity and distortion. A mix where gravity bends and rhythms liquefy. Quietly hypnotic, pleasantly disorienting. A story carved in low-end pulses, subtle tonal shifts  and steady, driving rhythms. Elusive, but unmistakably alive.

I met Louis at the mighty OHM in Berlin, where he worked as night manager. I hold much respect for people who hold these roles, they’re the backbone of the music scene, even if they rarely get the spotlight. Later, I discovered his music, and it genuinely caught me off guard in the best way. I’m really happy to have him on the Further Inward mix series. His mix hits exactly what I look for in music: focused, thoughtful, and with a strong sense of direction. I genuinely couldn’t ask for a better contribution.

Whether you're a fan of techno, house, breaks, or revel the magic of bass-driven music, there's no need to pick a side – Simply enjoy the depths of sound.
Coming from the roots of jungle and electro, with a stop in the world of dubstep, odd has kept his musical philosophy. Today, his DJ sets and productions are drawn to towards dub techno, but his love for variety remains. Garage and UK bass continue to find their way into his selections, always moving between four-to-the-floor and broken beats.
Supported by ARGEkultur Salzburg, odd created ages ago Audio Shadow, an event series dedicated to shining a spotlight on DJs who were organizing events and sustaining the pulse of club culture without always receiving the recognition they deserved.
Upon moving to Vienna, Rak3te invited odd to join Klub Sir3ne, a platform that celebrated the diverse facets of dub and bass music. 
In 2019, alongside fellow enthusiasts dj defizit, b.ranks, and rapha ready, odd co-founded OFF THE GRID, a collective that's been pushing boundaries and soundscapes of breaks and UK garage.
