Having enjoyed a rich education in electronic music, Yann Polewka very early on fell into the cauldron of House Music. With numerous records on international labels such as ESUOH records, RAW SOUL or Pont Neuf records, his music allows him to be exported beyond his native Brittany. From the legendary Parisian Rex Club to the Union Bar in Saint Petersburg, Yann Polewka is an integral part of the new French House scene. Founder of Organisme Texture, he organizes events allowing him to combine his passions of music and art, all in unusual places. 2020 also marks the creation of TXTR Recordings. This label brings together international and local artists who have performed at Texture events. The releases reflect the musical eclecticism developed in each of the collective's proposals.

To be honest, it's criminal that New Jersey native, Flamingosis, hasn't made a Boiler Room appearance yet. The now Brooklyn-based producer has been on our radar for a while, most notably via Sean Keating's regular office stereo plays — this year's future funkified 'Bright Moments' and the hazy brilliance of 'Pleasure Palette' from 2015 especially.

Both of those releases nonchalantly tread the tightrope between hip hop and disco/funk; often smooth and late summer afternoon-themed with the analogue punch of boom bap.

As he's noted in his description, this 50min blend comes after a similalry warm experience in more ways than one. Upfront 089 is blessed with incredible music that is custom-made for afternoon and late evenings spent horizontal. Gritty funk/rap knockers are shock absorbed by downtempo (sometimes saxophone-laced) jams from Flamingosis and his clearly talented group of friends.

Moon Harbour Radio 96: Leftwing & Kody, hosted by Dan Drastic

Once again delving into the deepest regions of the vast house music ocean - trawling for top-drawer tunage - Vinny Da Vinci and the team at House Afrika Records have caught some big fish for the seventh volume of ‘Deep House Sounds’ – and snagged some seriously distinctive rhythms.

The big fish include some of the grooviest names in the current dance music game; the likes of Home & Garden featuring Lisa Shaw, Abicah Soul (remixing Vick Lavender) and Jamie Anderson & Owain. And there are some very special catches too: contributions from a couple of the recent wave of DJs who have visited SA and become enamoured with its vibrant scene.

These recent visitors to (and vocal ambassadors for) the country include Harley & Muscle (the latter played gigs here alongside Kerri Chandler in 2009) and frequent flyer to these shores, French producer Rocco, who has two cuts included in Vinny’s smooth brew, one of which (“Love Sunsation”) is exclusive to the collection.
	
But as “sunsational” and special as this cut is, it’s just one of the cogs in a fully funk-tioning, hard-driving and highly-charged set that’s seamlessly strung together by a DJ whose credentials are unquestionable, and who’s still on the cutting edge of SA house culture two decades after his dancefloor debut.

“This latest ‘Deep House Sounds’ isn’t a radical departure from previous installments,” according to Da Vinci, adding with a smile that, “It’s not necessary to fix something that isn’t broken!” But he says he feels that the collection takes a leap forward in terms of the freshness of the sound, and reflects the widening appeal of more upfront sounds on SA ‘floors.

The fact that this is the seventh in the series – House Afrika’s most successful and essential line – says volumes in itself, and with an experienced groove navigator at the helm, house fans know what to expect. And that is simply the brightest beats around, superbly segued and then vacuum-sealed for long-lasting, body-flexing effect…
