As part of our countdown to RA.1000, a milestone in the 24-year history of RA's weekly mix series, we're switching up the usual format. The next few editions will pair two acts who complement each other's strengths, offering a fresh take on a particular community, scene or style. 

This week, we're zeroing in on Ron Trent and Ash Lauryn, two names who fly the flag high for old-school US house—a foundational pillar of the electronic underground. 

Trent takes the A-side. Hailing from Chicago, the birthplace of house, the pioneer is a master of finding the sweet spot where machine music meets organic instrumentation.  Listen to any DJ set or record in his extensive back catalogue and you'll find a wealth of exquisitely expressive melodies and deep, spiritual frequencies, making him the ideal narrator for any survey on house. (If you've only got a moment, sink into "Morning Factory," nine minutes of perfection.) 

Trent's return to the RA Podcast, 19 years after his debut in 2006, represents his many decades of expertise in fusing funk with gorgeous musicianship under the umbrella of heart-stirring house. Some may call it a masterclass but to us, it's just Trent doing what he does best.

Listened to as a whole, RA.996 is a powerful snapshot of house's elegance, class and most importantly, understated yet innately euphoric joy.

born in Schwabach in 1972, the Nuremberg native turned his love of music into a profession at an early age. His passion for vinyl and electronic music led him to his first beginnings at Nuremberg's legendary Prime Rose Club as DJ Solaris.

In 1996, he opened his own vinyl shop, "Recordstore," with Stefan Volkert named "Warren". He also organized events with him for several years, such as "SoundLab" at Desi, and formed the DJ duo Warren & Solaris.

From 2003 onward, he was the literal heart of Nuremberg's techno and house club "Die Rakete," which he successfully helped to shape until 2020. As a Rakete resident, his warm and organic sound, which oscillates between house and techno, continued to develop. 

With empathy for the dance floor, a feel for the right track at the right time, and influences from dub, acid, and electronica, he always manages to span a wide range of genres in his sets. He invited fellow DJs such as Levon Vincent, Subb-An, Gerd Janson, Barnt, and many more to his own event series, "Super Klub."
His monthly event series, "Mitkete," at the "Mitte Soundbar," was also a fixture of Nuremberg's nightlife for years.
Since 2014, he has released tracks produced with Markus Homm on labels such as Bondage, Cyclic, and Brise, including remixes by Mihai Popoviciu and Schlepp Geist.
With his almost 30 years of experience behind the decks, he consistently manages to create surprising moments and convey a positive vibe....

an American based DJ who emerged from San Franciscos rave scene in the early 90s. 
Patrick Scoot is known for his commitment to vinyl and a diverse approach to house music. 
He best describes his style as a “DJ with no boundaries,” enjoying the freedom to explore various house subgenres in his sets. 

His early influences were West Coast pioneers Doc Martin, Jeno, Garth and The Hardkiss Brothers. As well as Masters at Work and Chicago icons Dj Sneak & Mark Farina had an big impact on him.
But enough words spoken, so listen to his vinyl only mix from his legendary collection.. proud to have him on our series.
