Kostya Outta - Awakening

Part of the "Fall Particles 2016" compilation, East Café and his "False Visions" were an exciting contribution to a standout album. Fully represented with its own release alongside a trio of high-profile remixers, the original still enthrals with its emotive melodic phrasing, dynamic rhythmic interplay and first class production talent.

Latvian duo, Blood Groove and Kikis, have been at the vanguard of the underground dance scene for over seven years with their inimitable balance of progressive and trance. Regulars on the Spring Tube imprint, the pair have reigned supreme since early work saw them feature heavily, leading to almost a century of production credits for the Russian based label. Further work has found a home on Incepto, Pineapple Digital and Silk Music and it was for the latter that the best-selling "Wonderland" album went on to push Blood Groove and Kikis into mainstream consciousness with a compelling blend of original music. A quartet of remixes for Particles has served to remind listeners of the talent that flows from the pair's studio as we welcome them back to the label. Making intelligent use of the pitched percussive elements of the original, Blood Groove and Kikis' rework, takes "False Visions" on a tantalising, evolving journey that lilts deliciously before erupting at the mid-point with a dynamic running bass groove that cleverly reimagines East Café's work with a wealth of additional production material and striking new melodic sequence.

Fresh from his three-track, "Twisted" EP for Particles, Latvian producer, Ivar Tiliks, continues to gain admirers with his Subconscious Tales pseudonym. An artist whose mission statement centres around the use of adjectives such as 'melodic, hypnotising, charming and powerful', the Subconscious Tales story began, and has continued to grow, under the auspices of the Suffused Music imprint. Ably supplemented by a raft of production material for Balkan Connection, the Latvian's work is supported by such heavyweights as Hernan Cattaneo, Gai Barone and Barry Jamieson. Now following up his debut EP for Particles, the Suffused Tales voyage continues with a typically deft remix of "False Visions" that revels in cavernous bass groove and shuffling percussive cadence. Building effortlessly, intelligent use of East Café's parts sees hypnotic melodic repetition build to a rousing crescendo at the breakdown before rhythm and bass combine once more to startling effect in the third movement.

From the 17th century city of Tychy in Southern Poland, Jakub Helinski has continued to make waves of increasing amplitude through his Controlwerk soubriquet. Defining himself as "a risk taker and sound auteur", supported by Above and Beyond and Rank 1, the Controlwerk sound has found a home on such labels as Terminal Music, Soundwaves and Electronic Tree. Indeed, it is for the latter that a clutch of high-profile releases can be found, not least in January 2017's debut "Borderline" album, extending his sonic palette across the techno genre and illustrating an array of talents. Making his Particles debut, the Controlwerk remix of "False Visions" is full of the trademark subtlety and attention to detail that has become a staple feature of his work. Supported by a groove-laden rhythmic bed and cavernous bass line, a deliciously evocative melodic line spins a glassy web across the upper frequency range. Cleverly integrating components from East Café's original, Controlwerk's skill is in taking the track in an entirely different but no less enthralling direction.
