I'm from Southampton, and since that's not a very big place I thought it would be more fitting to play some of my favourite old UK Hip Hop records. Philadelphia always had a healthy Hip Hop scene that boasted famous artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, Cash Money & Marvelous and Steady B just to name a few. The Lord Finesse Episode

The word anniversary once referred to the commemorative feast in honor of a Catholic saint. Today we use the term for a celebration of any past event that took place the year or years prior on the same date. 

This year in particular marks the 20th Anniversary of a hip-hop record distinguished by its raw sound, uncompromising lyricism, and social commentary: Jeru the Damaja's debut album, The Sun Rises In The East. 1994 was a powerful, transformative year for hip-hop. Nas, OutKast, and Biggie Smalls each dropped their debut albums, while other more established artists released projects regarded both then and now as milestones in the genre. Jeru was only 21 years old when he recorded the The Sun Rises; 22 when it came out on Payday Records. And the album was well received in the hip-hop community.

What you're about to hear is Jeru the Damaja taking us track by track through his DJ Premier-produced debut album, delving into an array of subjects and stories such as:

- Waiting and watching for Nas to create Illmatic. 
- Spending formative years with the members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
- The nature of Brooklyn pride. 
- His inspiration drawn from his family, friends, and predecessors.
- And the story of how he got his pet hamster.

This is "You Must Learn."

Solid Steel (24th May) Following on from last year's treatment of 'Paul's Boutique' (by DJ Food, Cheeba and Moneyshot), United States of Audio does the same with De la Soul's groundbreaking album 3 Feet High and Rising. It's not just a mix, but more like an audio documentary about an album that is also about to celebrate it's 25th anniversary. In his own words;
'Several years in the making and including around 100 tracks, this is my personal tribute to De La Soul's '3 Feet High and Rising'. Using original sample sources, album tracks, interviews and rarities, 'How High's The Water Mama' tells the story of one of hip hop's most influential albums.
When De La Soul's debut album dropped in 1989 I was ten years old. Yet, by some stroke of amazing good fortune a cassette copy of '3 Feet High and Rising' found its way into my hands thanks to my best mate's older brother (though I'm pretty sure said brother had no idea of this fact!). The music was a revelation and had a significant influence in shaping my musical tastes - in fact I can't think of any other album that has had such a profound effect on me as this one. Thus '3 Feet High and Rising' holds a special place in my musical affections. Now, some twenty-five years after its original release, it's time to pay my respect to Pos, Dove, Mase, and Prince Paul...'

Faheem "DJ Priority" Jackson was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey. Music was the culture of his household while growing up during the 80s. His father, a DJ, always invited him into his home studio to listen and record albums for personal listening at a very young age. 

Starting in the mid 90s, he began to djay house parties and college parties. Around 2002, he then started djaying on college radio (The Last Hip Hop radio show) at William Paterson College with fellow dj, Max Jerome. The radio show became a significant median in the area with local artists throughout NJ. During this time, DJ Priority began moderating Max Jerome's website called (www.basically-hiphop.com).  

After being introduced to Newark's own Black 45, he began to meet numerous upcoming and established DJs, Producers, Graf Writers, Emcees, Beat Boxers and Breakdancers throughout the Tri-State area. Soon after, DJ Priority, Max Jerome and Black 45 began working together and organized the event (Meet The Producers Beat Battle Invitational) which eventually became the premier Beat Battle in NJ from 2003 to 2009. This also happened simultaneously as he started doing promotions and djaying on a college music tour across the country with Virgin Records.

In 2005, he started learning how to produce music for Hip Hop and R&B artists. He got his first big break by placing beats on Vast Aire's classic album "Dueces Wild" and Mighty Joseph's (Vast Aire & Karniege) "Empire State" albums in 2008 through Myspace.

After his first music placements, DJ Priority was featured in the critically acclaimed "King Of The Beats 2" dvd in 2008. Created and distributed by Pritt Kalsi (UK), The dvd featured producers from all parts of the world in a challenge to produce the best instrumentals with limited money while being filmed throughout the entire creative process.

Later that same year, DJ Priority began working on a Beat CD series entitled "Beat Cinema". Through this series he began to work with a bunch of artists including DoItAll (L.O.T.U.G.), Venomous2000, Jukstapose, Tone Liv and a host of other dope artists. 

DJ Priority and Venomous2000 released an album together called "Fresh Amazingly" in 2011. This album can be found on Itunes, Amazon and other online media outlets. After the success of the album, the duo toured France and Belguim and was recieved well from their music and stage performance.

Currently, he has a 90s Hip Hop show with host "Big City Show" on KJAMZ 105.3FM in Tulsa, Oklahoma every Monday night at 9pm Central time. Also, he's putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album with Tone Liv called "Clockwork".
