He who started in the late 80's as a successful DMC DJ in The Netherlands, mixing electro and hip-hop tracks, established thenafter an historic musical connection between Amsterdam and Detroit. Orlando Voorn's unique signature of early productions, analog tweaks, funky beats and cosmic chords, quickly attracted the attention of the like of Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, for which he produced game changing classic tracks like "Game One (as Infiniti)" and "Fix (as Flash)" in the early 90's only to continue to do so until today on numerous labels (R&S, Fragile, Nightvision…) and under various aliases (Playboy, Ghetto Brothers, Format…).

When triangles become circles, that's when you know you're observing the right angles in life. That's exactly what this majestic trio did on SUSAN007. From down under to way up above, Jensen Interceptor meets JEANS and in between it seems they let the dogs out with Axefield. 

This one is from The Hague legend, Jeans, who seemingly delivers regardless of the fit. This cut is more of the Boot variety; tight at the top, heavy bottom end, whilst more than likely seeing a lot of action on the floor.

If heavy industry is a thing of the past, no-one told Identified Patient. For the past few years, he has been a one-man factory: by day, assembling component parts of acid, techno and all varieties of wave (dark, cold, minimal) on the production line; by night, a DJ dynamo pulsing with so much energy he could power a small city. His style is the kind of churning, lithe, fractured machine funk that could make Trent Reznor weep with envy – mean but clean, sinister and stomping but crucially, never overconfident or overblown. After two show-stopping performances at the parent festival last year, Signals In Snakes marks Identified Patient’s first Dekmantel release, for the technoid UFO sub-label.

Opener “The Drip” lives up to its namesake, slowly lowering elements into the field of play with partner in crime Sophie Du Palais. No prizes for guessing what exactly might be dripping through this fetishistic slow burner, so we’ll let your sordid imagination run wild. “Let Me Do It” takes the pent-up anguish and lets rip with the mood of unearthed electrical wires sending sparks flying, an upscaling of intensity that continues on “Chantal Chant.” Envisioned as the moments of tension before a gladiator fight in ancient Greece, the acidysound is that of barely restrained militant chaos. Our battered fighter’s swan-song, “Lucy’s Comeback,” marshals the dark undercurrents of bass and brings us to a close. Giving a new lick of shiny paint to a well-weathered industrial exoskeleton, Signals In Snakes is one to unify the cold-blooded villains and hot-blooded lovers all summer long.

OVERVIEW:
NX1 are Samot and Surit, childhood friends and long-time production partners. Hailing from the same town in Majorca the pair have spent the last ten years developing a mutual passion and utopic vision for contemporary techno as individual artists, a collaboration now formally coming to fruition as Nexe Records. 

The project launched discreetly enough last year with the NX1 series. No track titles—only numbers, self-released and limited to just 200 pressings, the catalogue (totalling three EPs, with a fourth on the way) wears the “no-nonsense” insignia boldly pinned to its lapels, collectively posing as a commanding and stripped back showcase of music very literally speaking for itself. Indeed it is a concept that repeats throughout the remainder of the NX1 discography, and features once again here: the duo’s first four track EP, and debut release for M_Rec Ltd.

Seasoned NX1 followers will find the duo packing even more of a punch this time as the pair push proven scopey soundscapes and thundering basslines into deeper, darker extremities. If the latest NX1 self-releases have adopted more dub-techno tones, then ‘MR’ returns to earlier blueprints culminating in four moreish variants of sleek and driving techno. From the groovy hypnotism of “MR1” and “MR3” to the swirling strung-out highs of “MR2”, down to the sludgy depths of closer “MR4”, the NX1 message resonates loud and clear: Music is nexus. Plug into the system.
