Hard to believe it’s been half a year since I uploaded my last set on Soundcloud. I’m happy to share this recording from The Bow in Buenos Aires, recorded last month. 

If you’ve been following over the years, it’s no secret that The Bow holds a special place in my heart as one of the best places in the world to play, since the Argentinians are some of the most passionate music lovers I’ve ever seen. 32 hours of travel for a 3 hour set (and 3 steaks) is well worth it, every single time.

Happy to share a new recording from Kater Blau, Berlin. 

People fly all over the world to go to Kater for a reason. It’s a club focused on the music, focused on the moment, focused on the experience. It attracts the right people, who go for the right reasons. I love playing there. 

This lets me truly DJ in the moment. No thinking, only feeling. And this recording is a slice of what I’m trying to express through music, sitting outside a box: not just house, not just organic, not just progressive, not just melodic house/techno, not just tech house (or deep tech or whatever we call it)…

…a little bit of everything, as long as it flows and we all dance. 

As a side note, I’ve been getting more and more comfortable playing some of my own unsigned productions, so you’ll find a few tunes you haven’t heard from me before.

Ali is probably our go-to favourite dj and he delivers everytime. He goes way back in the underground scene - having a hand in the parties that we went to and that inspired us to start our own Promise parties 16 years ago! 
But his current output is just unstoppable, and we defy you to find us another local who can do what he does. Hold on tight for this mix - he went pretty pounding and dark on this one.

I'm happy to finally release my first extended set with you, recorded at StereoBar in Montreal. StereoBar is a club that's quickly jumped onto my shortlist of favorite venues in the world. Beyond the nailing the club fundamentals (sound system, layout, lighting, staff), they feature the "All Night" series where one DJ plays as opener, headliner, and closer. I love this format since it gives me the opportunity to build the energy from scratch and take the night in any direction without constraints.

But more importantly, I get to play for one of the most enthusiastic, supportive crowds that I've ever encountered. The energy from this night was the strongest I've felt in quite some time, certainly my best gig of the last year. Almost everything I threw out there worked, which actually makes me think that I might not have worked hard enough. There are many more sonic landscapes I'd love to explore, so hopefully I can come back again soon and we can take another journey in that special room...

Hoofbeats Music joined forces with the slovakian one and only 
force to be truly reckoned with - just twenty-two-year-old 
Piešťany native Changing Faces! Ema became a part of the HB 
Music crew last year and this is her first release exclusive to 
the label. The newest release which is comprised of two tracks 
marks a rather significant shift in musical characterization of 
Hoofbeats Music so far, from hard-hitting and sometimes downright 
evil and grim neurofunk tunes to more melodic, soulful ones. Both 
new tracks have been mastered by the mighty Break himself which is 
an honour in and of itself, with Monochrome, one spectacular half 
of the release, being a charming liquidized asset with soul 
caressing vocals and Hypnotic, the second and none the less 
spectacular half, bringing about the mainstream echoes of 
Dimension, Ema's biggest inspiration. The release clearly 
showcases Ema's versatility and pure talent as well as courage of 
Hoofbeats Music to abandon safe old neurofunk roads in search of 
the new as yet unexplored ones. Ema may be young but she has been 
a staple in the drum and bass community for a few years now and 
the overall quality of her newest release is a testament to this 
very fact.

I’m happy to release my recording from Sandbox Festival in Hurghada Egypt. I always love playing the Middle East. The sights, sounds, tastes, and smells are very different than my home, all of which represent one of my favorite aspects of DJing: getting enjoy the world’s diversity. Beyond that, I’ve found that the people of the region are an incredibly friendly and passionate bunch, so playing a festival that attracts the heads from many across the region was special for me.

The Sandbox mainstage was a big one - these stages are sometimes tricky for me as I feel pressured to go for the jugular and bang out a medley of big drops for those hands in the air moments, but I resisted the pressure and went instead for undulation between the deep moments building to the big ones while maintaining a steady groove through. Hope that idea came through, hope you enjoy the set, and can’t wait to make my way back to the Middle East!

My opening set for Tarna's annual Heartbreaker's Ball was an opportunity to explore music as the language of the heart. The result is a sonic journey thorough deep melodies, poetic lyrics, sassy minimal grooves and rich afro percussion. And, of course, I threw in a few  rumpin' basslines to get the party started ;)

Born July 2nd in Guelph, Ontario, Canada a.k.a. The Royal City.  Addiction to music from a young age would lead to a love of dance, choir, stage musicals and acoustic guitar.  Like most kids growing up in the 80's and 90's music was in an explosion phase with seemingly new genres every year.  An early love of Folk and Pop lead to a Rap and Punk music phase but Red Lion always appreciated a good rhythm, solid bass and a story in his music. 

Started spinning Jungle records in 1998 as a then student of DJ's King Pin, Leroy Brown and Quartz who later, along with Red Lion, formed the Royal City Jungle Alliance or ROCJA.  Also in 1998, he began working (alongside some close friends) for Toronto's Lifeforce Industries. Aiding in the promotion and production of such legendary Toronto events as Connected, Freakin', Bittersweet, W.E.M.F. Lifeforce Fridays, Turbo Fridays, I-Dance and of course the Dose and Syrous Anniversary parties. 

Over the years Red Lion has opened for legends of the scene such as Andy C, DJ Hype, Doc Scott, Aphrodite, Ed Rush & Optical & Jumping Jack Frost to name a few.  A regular at the World Electronic Music Festival (WEMF) since 1999 as well as the infamous Harvest Festival in Ontario at the end of each summer.  

Displaced from Ontario's GTA in 2020 during the pandemic Red Lion now finds himself living in Squamish British Columbia.  Jungle, Drum and Bass is a true passion that has blossomed over the last few decades of his life and he looks forward to being involved in any capacity as the music and the movement in Canada continues to grow.
