Today 6th Aug is International Beer Drinking Day so lets celebrate. I've been working on this set for a few months. Honestly I've moved so many tunes around time and time again so I can get the right feel.  I was going to release this last weekend but I had to wait for Sully's 5ives Mix that was just released a few hours ago on Bandcamp on Overshadow, so I snuck it in. It sounds so amazing! Reminiscing Pt10 Jungle 1994..

For the 8th edition of my Squat Rocking series of mixes dedicated to the sound of the UK free/squat party scene, I decided to shake things up a little. The previous instalments have covered the core sounds of the scene: acid techno/trance and hard techno, but with this mix I wanted to tip my hat to dark drum n' bass, a crucial element of the free party scene back when I was a regular attendee in the late 90's/early 00's. The drum n' bass dj's on the free party scene regularly aired some of the nastiest, filthiest, most gruesome tunes ... perfect sounds for stomping about to in a gloomy warehouse! I've tried very hard to capture that vibe in this mix, which covers 15 of some of the most no-holds barred techstep bangers in my collection. Enjoy!

HOJ return with another special guest, from stateside - O.D.D (ole dirty)! ODD was born in Cleveland, Ohio and starting spinning in 94, playing hip hop and jungle and not soon after joined the 'Element Squad'. O.D.D began traveling the mid west playing in the cities of Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh and others. Playing alongside artists like Pharcyde and Run DMC. After some time away from the scene, the resurgence of jungle music reignited O.D.D's passion and alongside Aaron Frank and Rob Blackburn, PPJ Recordings was born. With 3 releases to date including Krave, Mysmiakos & S.Kid, plus many more in the pipeline, PPJ are fast becoming a household name in the scene.

Australian Born 1971. Dutch Mother / English Father (which has influenced my music between UK breakbeat and Euro hardcore)

Rikochet began his DJing career at age 20 in the fresh and very underground 1991 Rave era. At the time, he was in the Australian Navy, which is how his earlier Dj pseudenom Popeye was created. Popeye’s first set launched at the legendary O’Mallys Hotel, Sunday recovery parties in Brougham St, Kings Cross. Playing all styles of dance music from House, Trance, Rave, Hardcore, Breakbeat and Jungle. He became part of Sydney’s Rave and Breakbeat culture. DJing at various venues all around Sydney’s Clubs, Pubs and Warehouses, he become well known for his piano breakbeat and driving bass line style morning sets. With the release of the very popular, Junglistic Rowdiness and N4CER tape series, Popeye’s sound was in demand.
During his 3-year Rave career, Popeye played alongside Carl Cox, Slipmatt and a range of great Australian DJ’s. As a DJ competition panel judge, he also played numerous radio shows and was a columnist on the topic of Breakbeat and Jungle in the Rave journal, Juicy Red Apple & D&B in the UK "Knowledge" magazine.
As a JMA founding member, Popeye was instrumental in championing the new cutting edge sound of Jungle / Drum n Bass to Sydney through his various (and highly collectible) mix tapes. After the release of the JMA tapes (Vol 1. Jungle Massive Australia) in 1995, and a booking at Sydney’s Big Day Out festival (1997), Popeye changed names to Rikochet, and became the first Australian DJ to play Triple JJJ’s Mixup national program 3 times. 
Since then, Rikochet has played alongside some of the most influential DJ’s and producers of the D&B community, such as Moving Shadow’s Rob Playford, Grooverider, Ratty, DJ SS, Kenny Ken, Dr S. Gachet, Chemistry & Storm, and DJ Rap with MC Fearless to name a few.
