Going right back to 1992-1993 with a selection inspired by old C90 tapes filled with London based pirate radio recordings from Pulse FM, Impact FM, Kool and Weekend Rush etc. 
DJs like Warlock, Skie, Transit and Jinx amongst others… 
A few of those original tapes got chewed up by my Walkman at the time and sadly there was no fix for that, just game over. 
Nice to go back and recreate the style of the sets I was listening to back then (unfortunately minus the chat and adverts which added a lot of atmospherics).

Dan 92 - 93 Hardcore London Pirates Selection

I've been working on this set on and off for over 3 years. I was constantly challenged with the tune selection. I made a 45 min mix in 2018 and loved it, kept it to myself, and then when I went to remix it I totally changed it. Anyway.. this is my '92 Happy breakbeat Mix. I actually played a lot of these tunes back in the day but I've definitely added to my 92 collection over the years. These are some of the best 92 piano tunes that I own, but there are sooooo many more OMG! That said, I'm trying to add tunes that you may not have heard me play before too to keep it interesting. This is Part 2 of a new series I'm creating to showcase some of the best of my collection in each of my early years. I started DJing in 92, but started raving in '88. I recently started a new job working remotely for a London-based company, so two weeks ago I flew to London to visit the head office and meet my team for the first time in person. It was fun!

To have something to listen to on the trip, two days before I left I made this little mix, and to make it very 'London' I decided to do a mix of classic jump-up drum n' bass, a sound that I will always associate with my teenage years in London. What was jump-up? It was where rave music had evolved to by 1996: rolling breakbeats, hip-hop samples, street attitude, wobbly basslines. Music for intense dancing, but a step away from the loved-up euphoria of the early 90's hardcore scene it evolved away from. Just a ton of fun ... enjoy!

DJ Hype – Studio Mix [April 1993]

All true hardcore afficionados will know the epic Yaman series of studio mix tapes, so for this mix I went to Discogs and copied the tracklistings from all of the Yaman tapes from 1993 into a spreadsheet and painstakingly built this tracklisting, taking tracks from each dj and each tape. When you consider the year's tapes came from LTJ Bukem, Randall, DJ Hype, Peshay and Jumping Jack Frost, you know that such a method is pretty much nailed on to deliver a killer selection of tunes!

As you can see, this mix shows off just how awesome hardcore was in 1993, and how it bridged 1992 rave mayhem to 1994 junglism (some of the tracks here were still only dubplates in '93 and didn't come out until later). 1993 was the key year, the last point where the rave scene was united as one, before it fragmented off into many different directions. If you are someone who wasn't even born then and are listening to this mix now, trust me, you're in for a treat!

Yaman 1993 Hardcore [A tribute to the epic Rave tape series]

Australian Born 1971. Dutch Mother / English Father (which has influenced my music between UK breakbeat and Euro hardcore)

Rikochet began his DJing career at age 20 in the fresh and very underground 1991 Rave era. At the time, he was in the Australian Navy, which is how his earlier Dj pseudenom Popeye was created. Popeye’s first set launched at the legendary O’Mallys Hotel, Sunday recovery parties in Brougham St, Kings Cross. Playing all styles of dance music from House, Trance, Rave, Hardcore, Breakbeat and Jungle. He became part of Sydney’s Rave and Breakbeat culture. DJing at various venues all around Sydney’s Clubs, Pubs and Warehouses, he become well known for his piano breakbeat and driving bass line style morning sets. With the release of the very popular, Junglistic Rowdiness and N4CER tape series, Popeye’s sound was in demand.
During his 3-year Rave career, Popeye played alongside Carl Cox, Slipmatt and a range of great Australian DJ’s. As a DJ competition panel judge, he also played numerous radio shows and was a columnist on the topic of Breakbeat and Jungle in the Rave journal, Juicy Red Apple & D&B in the UK "Knowledge" magazine.
As a JMA founding member, Popeye was instrumental in championing the new cutting edge sound of Jungle / Drum n Bass to Sydney through his various (and highly collectible) mix tapes. After the release of the JMA tapes (Vol 1. Jungle Massive Australia) in 1995, and a booking at Sydney’s Big Day Out festival (1997), Popeye changed names to Rikochet, and became the first Australian DJ to play Triple JJJ’s Mixup national program 3 times. 
Since then, Rikochet has played alongside some of the most influential DJ’s and producers of the D&B community, such as Moving Shadow’s Rob Playford, Grooverider, Ratty, DJ SS, Kenny Ken, Dr S. Gachet, Chemistry & Storm, and DJ Rap with MC Fearless to name a few.
