This collection, consisting of original music by all Iranian women artists, is dedicated to the recent uprising of people, especially the women in Iran who have endured silencing, censorship, and forced control over the past four decades. Throughout Iranian history, women have been at the forefront of music and performing arts. However, in the past 44 years under the Islamic regime, women in Iran have been banned from singing, dancing, and performance. Facing threats to the safety of themselves and their families, to their career and reputation, female artists are forced to quit, leave Iran, or to go underground facing grave risks. Despite this, Iranian women have remained active and at the forefront of their art, pushing boundaries from Iran and different corners of the world. 

Iran has risen up to a revolution. On September 16, 2022, A young girl named Mahsa Jina Amini was killed in the hands of Iran’s morality police, a police force assigned to enforce Islamic dress codes on women through harassment methods. Since then, major protests have broken out across the country and throughout the world. What started as a spark in protesting justice for Mahsa Amini has since turned into a revolution with people fearlessly protesting across the country. Government forces have brutally killed, arrested, and tortured many protestors including children and teengars. Despite this, the protests are getting larger and larger and the fight for freedom of oppression for women and girls has become the greatest of its kind throughout history. 

As a group of Iranian women, this fight is closest to our hearts. We release this collection in solidarity and towards a fight for a free Iran. We dream of a future where women and girls can openly and safely practice, grow, and shine within arts, especially electronic music. From us to you, the free and soon-to-be free world, and to a free Iran. Zan, Zendegi, Azadi [translates to: Woman, Life, Freedom].

As an Iranian-female run collective, this weekend we are celebrating Nowruz through a very female lens.  Curator/ founder RONISA is joined by the amazing @sooskimusic for a special back-to-back Nowruz mixtape recorded live on Netil Radio.

Expect Iranian and Global sounds reimagined through a bassy, club lens.

Diasporic Daze is a monthly reimagining of culture and music founded by multidisciplinary artist @__ronisa__. Sooski is a London-based singer, songwriter, and producer with Persian heritage, blending her diverse artistry into her music.

Cutting his teeth in Brisbane/Meanjin's underground dance scene, the now London-based Iti is a DJ and producer with a sound that constantly evolves, blurring genre lines with precision and purpose. Known for his sharp ear and meticulous production, his mixes, which weave an intricate narrative of heritage, influences, and an innate understanding of human movement, have found homes on globally respected platforms like NTS, Radio Alhara, and Rinse.fm, further solidifying his presence on the international stage.

Beyond the decks, Iti has been pivotal in amplifying South Asian voices in electronic music. The co-founder and mastermind behind the club-focused label Pocketmoth, his influence extends deep into the scene’s creative fabric.

Sunburst Digital offers a distinct perspective within Iti’s diverse repertoire. A sleek, futuristic take on house music, the track layers snappy, late-night percussion with lush strings and an irresistible bassline. Its less-is-more approach highlights both groove and restraint, showcasing Iti’s ability to craft tracks that leave a lasting impact on the dancefloor.

The music Aurora Halal creates is informed by many different disciplines. She is a producer, but also a videographer and visual artist who has worked on films about modular synth godfather Morton Subotnick amongst others. She is also the force behind Brooklyn’s Mutual Dreaming party series as well as the Sustain-Release festival. In just a couple of years she has cooked up an expressive and experimental techno sound—solo and with the likes of Ital—on labels such as Lovers Rock and her own Mutal Dreaming Recordings. Oppressive and foggy, her distorted, imperfect sounds made up of heavy drums and scurrying synths have taken her to plenty of remarkable live gigs all over the world. Now she steps up to our mix series with equal aplomb.

RONISA is founder of @diasporic.daze a radio show, collective and event space celebrating artistry and music from the SWANA and POC diasporas. She is also co-founder of @mehmooni.london, a club night centring Iranian artists and is passionate about creating spaces of equity in the electronic scene.
