Okay, so some of you may know this already...but for those of you who don't, I've followed Afrojack every step of his career since "In Your Face." I first got into dance music when my cousin showed me videos of Jonathan Peters & Danny Tenaglia playing at the now-defunct Sound Factory. I warmed up to tech, tribal, and minimal house and subsequently stumbled upon Nick Van de Wall. I still hold his tracks "Thief," "Three Stars," and "Cheese" dear to me, and even rock them a lot in my sets when warming up a room (sometimes no one can believe they're Afrojack tracks, haha). I continued to ride with him as he started to develop his signature dirty dutch/bleep house sound (I remember hearing "Funk With Me" and being curious to hear more of that style). Anddddd then of course "Bangduck" and his remix of "Moombah" (along with Chuckie & Sidney Samson) set off that whole dutch house movement. After proving his crossover appeal with songs like "Take Over Control" and "Give Me Everything" while maintaining his raw sound in between, from "Replica" al the way to "Ughh." With his debut album 'Forget The World,' I think Afrojack wanted to further prove to the masses that he can make tracks that are "musical" and showcase his talents not just as a producer, but as a songwriter as well -- similar to what Zedd and Avicii are doing. The track that stood out to me on the album was "Mexico." It gave me chills and it was just a pure, stripped-down song, with no trace of "EDM" whatsoever. I thought to myself (almost instantly) that I HAD to remix the track. So this is where everything comes full circle ladies & gents! I hope you enjoy my remix to Afrojack's "Mexico"!!!
