I haven't had the opportunity to meet this week's guest yet but I hope to at some point. She's a whole vibe and my new favorite DJ. I have been playing this mix almost every day since I got it 2 months ago. The amount of raw soul coming through is really special. Please welcome Toyacoyah. She's is an indigenous DJ known for blending ancestral rhythms with modern breakbeats. She began her DJ career in the late 90s at the University of Oklahoma, curating beats for her own drum and bass radio show. After moving to Austin, Texas, she became a resident DJ for Mental Note, a night dedicated to liquid funk and jazzy drum and bass. Now based in Chicago, she continues to share her passion for fast-tempo music across the Midwest. Toyacoyah has performed alongside top producers like Addison Groove, Luke Vibert, LTJ Bukem, Roni Size, and Tim Reaper, delivering sets that span electro, breaks, juke, jungle, and more.

"This mix was recorded spontaneously in February 2025 and was simply intended to have fun with some new music; it was never meant to be published, just made for myself and close friends. But although it was never created for a public audience, it marks a small milestone in my work, as it is the first mix to feature a few „tracks“ that were solely made by myself (besides some upcoming collaborations with GUNSTON). Other artists featured in this journey are (in alphabetical order): AMIT, ANTAGONIST, BRENDON MOELLER, ESCHER, GOVERNMENTFUN, GUNSTON, HERON FLOW, MAUQ, MULTICAST DYNAMICS, NEED FOR MIRRORS, QUARTZ, TELLUS, and UNEVEN.

Pure Vibes w/ Tim Clay - 18/06/2025

Here's the full set from my Dub Circle performance live from the rotunda in Camperdown Park, Sydney recorded on Nov 9th 2019. This was my first ever live performance using laptop, Maschine and an additional controller.

Dub Circle is a project developed together with visual artist Gabrielle Bates, which aimed to activate the park and create a new, modern interpretation of traditional ritual. 

Over 18 months I recorded sounds from Camperdown Park and the surrounding block using various mics and a zoom recorder. Exclusively using these sounds I created riddims combining field recordings, found percussion and melodic elements to create the soundtrack for the event. I also recorded and used reverb convolutions from spaces around the park from alleyways, basketball courts, kids slides, etc. If you're curious about any particular sounds leave a comment in the set timeline and I'll get back to you on how it was sourced. 

Dub Circle was performed from the rotunda in the park during a stunning sunset on Nov 9th 2019 on Sydney's infamous Inner West Reggae Disco Machine Soundsytem, also built in the local area. Dancers and community members of all ages and walks of life participated in a procession & dance around the cricket oval. Costumes and masks had been created throughout the year by Gabrielle Bates and additionally through a series of local workshops with community schools in the area.

Raised in the Toronto warehouse rave scene of the late 90s, Semper-Fi has been mixing jungle, hip hop, dubstep, dancehall and reggae for over 20 years running. He’s played with everyone from reggae legends Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Sly & Robbie to dubstep dons DJ Pinch and Appleblim to D&B innovators AMIT, Sinistarr and Rockwell.
