“Spike had become friends with Skyler Grey a few years ago. When I first started working on the record, we were coming up with list of possible collaborators, and her name came up. Skyler just has a remarkable gift for lyrics and melody, and her voice has such a distinctive, beautiful quality. 

For ‘The Last Day,’ we collaborated on the lyrics and the performance: I wanted the vocal to have this specific, delicate vulnerability to it. The last thing I did to this song was add six tracks of Sonic Youth/Glenn Branca-style feedback: I put in earplugs, did open tunings on some guitars, put them through two distortion pedals into the amp, and just recorded track after track of feedback to create this weird subsonic wash. In it, the loud feedback is mixed really quiet, which gives the song a kind of atmospheric space the song wouldn’t have otherwise.”

Amidst a musical fanfare mid-way through the year, a Proton Music highlight of significant import saw Kobana release his much anticipated debut artist album. Released a month earlier, the track "Barsoom" provided a taste of what was to follow with a typically innovative remix from Nick Stoynoff. Now, as the delights within "The Riddle" are fully realised, Proton 'returns to Mars' with brand new interpretations of "Barsoom" from a German legend and a rapidly rising Australian star.

To those with discerning tastes, Marc Poppcke needs little introduction. A musical connoisseur from an early age and DJ first and foremost, performances in local clubs around his Hildesheim hometown quickly provided a growing fan base and a two-year residency at Hannover's club "H.de.M." in the early 2000s. Moving to the capital to study at Berlin's "School of Audio Engineering" provided a further launch pad to success as the Meerestief and Diynamic imprints saw early collaborative work with Daniel Solar well supported. Further studies at Berlin's "University of Arts" saw the award of a Masters degree before a production career then skyrocketed. 2012's "Displayed Emotions/History Repeating" EP for Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat and 2013's "Inner Conflict" EP on Sasha's Last Night on Earth have been notable highlights, allied to further work for Parquet, Defected and Soma. With over a half-century of credits for his own Crossfrontier Audio also to his name, Proton Music is thrilled to welcome back Marc Poppcke after previous remixes of Fran Von Vie and Colourblock. 

Returning for a third outing, Poppcke's remix of "Barsoom" is full of the subtle melodic phrasing and dynamic rhythmic interplay that epitomises his work. Taking Kobana's track on a ten-minute voyage of discovery, audio cues from the original are cleverly used to optimum effect to create a delicious new interpretation that bristles with emotion.

Australian, Kieran Krohn has grown rapidly within the underground music scene through a combination of hard work and no considerable talent. Head of the highly-regarded FutureForm Music imprint, Verve has brought a wealth of industry know-how and blue chip contact lists to fruition with a raft of successful releases, combining his own unique sound and brining the talents of Quivver, Andre Sobota and fellow countryman, Rich Curtis, to the fore. A production career that encompasses elemental fusion of "minimal, tech, trance and techno" has led to a sought after sound that has graced the catalogues of Lowbit, Indigo and Stereo Paradise while the "Fusion" EP on Particles, amidst remixes from Exoplanet, Ferdy and Kobana & Mario Hatchet, now sees Verve elevated to Proton Music once more after a successful remix of Tvardovsky's "Hope" in May.

Taking an expert approach to his craft, the Verve remix of "Barsoom" combines the smooth melodic structures of Kobana's original with a strong house rhythm and hypnotic tape-delayed siren call that evolves and envelopes as it plays, bringing Verve's passion and attention to detail to the fore.

Kobana's "Return to Mars" is an immaculate exploration of space and atmosphere as Marc Poppcke and Verve breathe new life into "Barsoom".

Following on from their Record Store Day ‘Looped EP’ release, which featured remixes by Dauwd and Lubomyr Melnyk, Kiasmos – made up of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen – return with three new tracks and a remix by Tale Of Us.

Recorded in various locations including Reykjavík and Berlin, the EP opens with ‘Drawn’, a four-minute percussion fuelled track with gentle piano motifs. ‘Gaunt’ features the addition of ambient synths and a drum loop, underpinned by slow-moving chords. Title track ‘Swept’ which the duo offered to fans as a surprise gift in form of a free download card at previous show dates, showcases a more club-oriented beat structure alongside Kiasmos’ signature emotive instrumentation. 
 
Closing the EP is a remix from Berlin-based duo Tale of Us who met Kiasmos in London and twist the original downbeat title track
into their distinctively dark aesthetic. Pulsating hats and a driving bass loop add pace as the track builds toward an epic breakdown.

The ‘Swept EP’ will be released on 12”/DL via Erased Tapes on November 20th, 2015.

Anthony PL, along with his musical partner Paul S, make them debut at Wet Recordings with Xray EP with two original mixes and two remixes from Sraw Rats and Lefty D. 

01. Xray is a deep tech bass driven track with hypnotic vocals with extremely smart use of middle frequencies during the whole arrangement of it. Highly recommended for early use on deep and tech sets. 

02. The collaboration between Anthony PL and Paul S, Acid People, goes even deeper with darker sounds and elements that drive the track to a percussive extravaganza, before the main breakdown which creates the needed space for the track to build up again. 

03. Lefty D’s remix on Xray is another example to foretell the bright future that this intelligent and proficient young man will have on dance music scene. Starting with huge emphasis on the bottom drum elements Lefty’s creativity is being shown by the first moments of this dancing bomb. Right use of chopped up vocals and wide spectrum synths create the proper atmosphere to make this track an absolute dance floor banger.

04. Introducing their new project, Sraw Rats aka George Pallikaris (G.Pal) and George Seragos (SerGeo), bring a techie remix on Xray. Rolling bassline, sharp drum programming, sudden cuts and a detuned sawtooth synth give a quick warmup description just before the breakdown kicks in. Peak time track for the dance floor people to go nuts.

Immersed in music from a young age, Greek DJ and producer George Seragos has ridden a wave of success and creativity, few can rival in the Greek electronic music scene.

Leaving his hometown to study Computer & Business at Warwick University at the age of 18 was a significant highlight for his music career. In 1999, by co-hosting the RaW Dance Selector –the university’s most popular radio show- immediately drew attention to himself, and in November 2000, repeating the success again, they were awarded the title of “The Best Radio Show of the year”. Two years later, by joining a music technology master’s degree at City University, UK, he signals his intent to assert underground dance floor dominance.

2002 has provided a set of top-flight credentials that have led him to DJ competition success, organised by Heineken and earning the second prize, under the watchful eyes of Pete Tong as well as a debut contribution in Greece’s most renowned radio station, Best Radio 92,6. Hosting a weekly radio show for the afterhours zone, with his own brand of eclectic sets, a light was first shone on Sergeo’s burgeoning talent. Joining forces with G-Pal and Adrianos Papadeas- both no strangers to success in their own right- they quickly provided a fertile ground for George to showcase his redoubtable talent.

George Seragos has been at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene for more than a decade and has seen highlights such as the remix contest organized online by Skint records for remixing the track “Kill 100” by X-Press 2 where we won the first prize (Sergeo Remix), as well as his contribution as the A&R manager at the renowned Greek independent record label “The Sound Of Everything”. Former gigs in UK, Dubai and with multiple appearances at one of Greece’s most reputable clubs Cavo Paradiso, has added to a global presence as his career begun to make strides.

Over the past year, as the owner, A&R and label manager of both Swift Lab Records and Wet Recordings, he has provided a conduit for an impressive music output, ensuring that his sound remains as relevant and important today as it has ever done.
