This week's mix is sooo good and perfect for the lovely spring weather we're currently enjoying here in London. It comes from Cameo Culture, who we first became aware of back when he released a lush track called 'Night Swimming' via No.19 Music. Since then he's been working behind-the-scenes with Wolf + Lamb, putting his engineering skills to great use for the excellent label. He's also been hard at work on his own album project, Burning Bright, which is out now... in light of that, we thought we should have a chat with him about the LP as well as giving our Deep House London followers a great mix to listen to! Cameo Culture - Deep House London Mix #037

This is a mix I made for myself - 2024 was a year of huge challenges for me, many of which emanated from issues around mental health and addiction.

For a long time I didn't want to play music as I felt compelled to play happy music, music that made me forget about how I had been feeling. This time I decided to make a mix to represent the hard feelings I had been dealing with, and to get them out of me into this mix. It felt like squeezing poison out of me, and in the end there is relief, but it is painful to get there.

I would not listen to this mix if you are expecting anything uplifting. But if you are going through a hard time, I hope that some of you can find the process of going into painful emotions as something cathartic.

I can finally say that after over 300 hours of work and about a solid month of all nighters, Color Collection RED is officially complete. It wouldn't have been a satisfying project without hitting a wall, and with just about a week left to my original New Year’s deadline, I reached the infamous 51 minute marker. I was stuck for 2 straight weeks on the 51 minute point of this album, but luckily I was able to give it a jump spinning hook kick to the mouth and got past the hurdle.

Coincidentally during the initial production of RED, a reality TV show that both my father and brother co-starred, began airing weekly on the Discovery Channel. Soon after I heard a Radio interview of some of the other co-stars on the show. The words they had to say about their experience with my father had not only confirmed my own feelings about the man, but also cemented the concept and introduction of my RED album. Aside from passion, aggression, excitement, love, and emotion, BLOOD is undeniably RED, and blood runs thicker than water. 

I now present an album I dedicate to my truly incredible, mentor, friend, inspiration, and not to mention greatest father of all time. Siamak Ashrafinia!
