Teaser Sonance Set BITF 2023

In the quirky setting of Black Rock City, a group of Eastern European vampires, convinced of their own glorious superiority, had made themselves quite at home. They strutted around with extravagant capes, calling themselves the "Empire of Eternity," while the others—the werewolves and energy vampires—couldn't help but feel a bit outshone.

As the full moon rose, the werewolves howled, but it sounded more like a canine choir having an identity crisis. The energy vampires, once feared, were reduced to sulking and feeding off each other's envy like supernatural drama queens, contained in their own echo chamber of barking seriousness and anger.
Meanwhile, the Eastern European vampires hammed it up, striking dramatic poses, and declaring themselves the "Undisputed Lords of the Night!" They basked in their own amazingness while the others scratched their heads and wondered how they ended up in this comedic showdown.

Under the desert's moonlit circus tent, the Empire of Eternity proved that even in the realm of the supernatural, there was room for humor, absurdity, and a whole lot of over-the-top theatrics. And as the energy vampires and werewolves remained trapped in their echo chamber of barking seriousness and anger, the Eastern European vampires watched the spectacle unfold with laughter in their undead hearts.

Man Burn Set [ Burning Man @ VAMPIRE EMPIRE 2023 ]

The rains at Burning Man 2023 had ceased and the mudpocalypse was still in full swing. The weather had shut down the Camp Kinetic soundstage where I was originally locked in to open Moontribe's techno lineup on burn day (Sat) with a noon timeslot. Everything got shifted back and Moontribe ended up throwing a much bigger party later that night at our friends' camp Deaf Granny's Kitchen. Instead of opening I got to play right in the middle of the Moontribe lineup to a full dance floor of friends ready to dance their asses off, and pure magic happened. It was my honor to share this set at that perfect moment, and it's my honor to share it with you again now. Thanks for dancing with me. 🖤

I intended this mix to bring the dark to light. Booked as the opening slot Friday morning around 6am amid dust storms, it felt appropriate that I start with darker techy shit, then move into hopeful grimy shit, then evolve into hip hop influenced tech house. This progression was effective and had the dance floor, full of people now grooving, whom weren't there when I started, jumping in sync against the weight of the pre-storm white-out.

This mix is special because as the inevitable fell upon us in the form of rain, and dust storms swept across Esplanade in fearful anticipation of the impending precipitation, I was lucky enough to choose and play songs perfectly appropriate songs, before we got drenched. Songs by Justin Martin which Encouraged our dance floor to remember that the "sun will rise again" and that some storms weren't meant to break you, no, they were "meant to build you!"

And as the dust cleared, the Bubbles and Bass dance floor filled itself with the courageous and those who braved the elements were rightly rewarded with champagne infused Bubbles. and Bass.

If you missed out, don't worry. It was better next year.

SKEZ’s musical career began at age 20 as lead singer of a progressive alt-rock band in the UK. He started DJing with vinyl in Brighton in 2004, and after emigrating to Canada in 2007, became an integral part of the BC underground house music scene. 
This was followed by three years of residencies in the Caribbean, art car sets at Burning Man, regional shows including Otherworld, ValhallaFest, Footwork Entertainment (supporting DJ Sneak/Hatiras/Flipside/Defunk). Recent residencies with Jellyfish Lounge collective and a progression into production have resulted in legendary parties and multiple releases on SoundCloud and major streaming sites.
Behind the decks SKEZ is a master of his craft, creating a magical feedback loop with his audience, pushing the energy and euphoria to the max. Selecting music from a rich array of producers, he creates a deeply connective soundscape full of bass heavy grooves, tribal rhythms and anthemic melodies. He's sure to take any dance floor on an epic journey and leave them wanting more!
