I love going on a deep musical journey with an audience. Slowly and steadily seducing dancers with tantalizing grooves, building the trance. From there going to epic peaks and also gentle but mesmerizing breaks, re-charging for another wave of colorful dancefloor pleasure.

A trippy global dancefloor journey in an Ecstatic Dance flow with peaks as well deep valleys, to energise you and connect you with the joy and lust for life as well as the silence and more introspective shades of your being.
Recorded live at Dansunie in Deventer.

Breathing Dawn

A deep and spicy dance journey which mixes Greek folk, global dancehall, psychedelia, oriental slow rave, trance music from Mali & Kenya, afro house, kuduro, film music & field recordings from the city & countryside of Crete. The trip starts and ends at the market in Timbaki, a village in the south of Crete. The sea between rocks, a peaceful stream in a botanical garden, a solitary owl and crickets all make appearaces in this groove tale.. which travels from the drowsy last days of summer into te fiery first chapter of autumn.

DJ Socrates spend a month in the South of Crete camping in the mountains, harvesting olives, recording soundscapes, and gathering fresh musical inspiration. This is a snapshot of all the vibes, spices sounds and colours he took home.

Echoes from the gorge

Live recording of my set for the very first edition of Freeflow Ecstatic Dance In Utrecht, the Netherlands. It was clear for everyone there that Sunday morning that it was the start of something special, fresh and exciting, a new community in the making. The euphoria in the air made for a great collective dance experience with a lot of movement, joy and expression.. One of my best experiences mixing an Ecstatic Dance set.

the mix kicks of with some of my own field recordings, then Nick Drake's "Sunday" sets the tone for a trip full of color and imagination. A  groove journey that travels through Ecuador, Spain, West Africa, Rio to Lisbon, Delhi to Glasgow and back. Enjoy!
