House music's greatest hit-makers? 

Quite possibly. Since the end of the 1980s, Kenny Dope and Louie Vega - given the Masters at Work name, so the story goes, by Todd Terry - have been releasing house and garage anthems with unbelievable regularity. There's 'The Ha Dance' - the track whose Trading Places sample gave ballroom its trademark Ha crash. There's 'Work', one of the most remixed and sampled tracks in dance music history. There's 'To Be In Love', one of the most perfect synergies of dance music and pop music ever made - and these are just the tip of the MAW iceberg, we've not even started on solo hits like Kenny Dope's 'The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)' and 'No Hook', and side gigs like Kenlou.

You get the picture: these two could play nothing but their own material for two hours and still not even scratch the surface of their vast, influential and - most importantly - ridiculously fun discography. But ahead of a rare London show at Found's 51st State Festival (where they'll be joined by fellow vets Derrick Carter, Dennis Ferrer, David Morales and many more), we asked them to try. This is Masters at Work in the mix for FACT - sometimes all you need is what it says on the tin.

Original Info & Track List: I think it was 1985 when I first heard "Mystery of Love" by Chicago's own Mr. Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers. The Tune was very gritty and raw but it was very very Smooth, completely Soulful and totally Different. From that moment on, Mr. Fingers music always seemed to be relevant to Me and his cuts were in the 'Crates' of many of my DJ Friends in Detroit. Soon after Larry partnered with Robert Owens and Ron Wilson and they formed Fingers Inc. and recorded their double album Smash: "Another Side" (1988) 

The late 80's was a massive time for House Music and Larry Heard was definitely making his musical Mark. Tunes like: "Washing Machine" "Can You Feel it" and "Bring Down The Walls" shook dance floors from New York to Detroit and even out to The UK. On This Mix, "Finger Print" I wanted to feature some lesser known tunes that Larry Heard did Remixes on: Collaboration's with, Alton Miller, Nick Curly, Moodymac and Ananda Project as well as a few others that are Totally Amazing and feature that "Fingers" signature sound! Larry Heard's sound is so jazzy, melodic, distinctive and completely Funky! So Please grab something Smooth to Sip, Plug in this Phones and Enjoy... The Finger Print of Mr. Larry Heard!!!

In Loving Memory of Philip Grahame Asher [1966 - 2021]

On Friday 22nd January 2021 our lovely friend Phil Asher suddenly passed away leaving his family, friends and the global dance music community mourning the loss of one of life’s unsung heroes and real good guys.

Without Phil Asher or PHLASH there would be no Reel People. Like so many artists and acts that came from London’s soulful dance scene in the early 2000s he was the LINK that made it all happen. He introduced all 3 of us and like all others we followed him in awe of his passion for music and love for his community and life.

Phil was an MPC beating, dancefloor destroying, hands in the air making, cup of tea and yum yum eating man like no other. Words can’t begin to describe just how infectious his laugh was and how warm his hugs were.

We are so grateful that Brian, Sheldon and all the guys at Traxsource have helped us to put this tribute page to Phil live on the site. Thanks also to all the friends of Phlash who have supported with charts and to Spinna for such a wonderful dj mix. For those who don’t know about Phil’s musical legacy, please take time to delve into this page and discover incredible joints and jams. For those who do know about Phil, we hope you find some hidden gems from this restless soul.

Phil was incredibly proud of his amazing son Marvin who has followed in his dad’s footsteps into music production under the aliases NGC and the Xutians. With this in mind his close friends have set up The Marvin Jupiter Asher fund to help Marvin continue his dream and continue the Asher legacy. Tribute Mix to Phil Asher aka PHLASH by DJ Spinna

It was 1980 in Detroit Michigan where I first fell in Love with this Music. I was 13 years old and the Music of Choice for Me and my Friends was Progressive Dance Music. We didn't know it at the time but We were actually creating a Musical Lifestyle of sorts that would follow many of us the rest of our lives.

Sure there would be periods when no music was bought and no new mixes were produced, but time would go by and before you knew it This Music Thing would just Grab hold to Me again...

In 2012 My Musical Journey started again! This dance music would prompt me to start mixing on the web via my YouTube Channel with over 45K followers, and Soundcloud with over 5K and counting... This music would even take me around the U.S and as far away as Beijing China to DJ (Twice). I'm  really excited now more than ever because I am are currently living in Miami and DJing at my residency at N'Namdi Contemporary Gallery.
