I am SO stoked to have had the opportunity to close out the night at the Waverley Hotel in Cumberland, BC. 

I absolutely adore this community. Since I first lived in the Comox Valley (2009-2010), and went to shows at the "Wave", and other events (that I had the honor of being a part of) such as The Big Time Out, the Big Day Up and many more... I have found the people (promoters and dancers alike) to always be super supportive and not a lot of "donkeys' lol, really truly though, my kind of peeps for sure. They are really all about the music! 

Now that I live here again, it was awesome to see Vig, from Cumlerland Village Works, still at it! It's been great to reconnect with him. I believe that I did meet Ben back in 2009 but I can't remember how... well, anyways, he now has a company called Mt. Eliah (aka Long Shot Events) and one of his latest, big projects, is the Pachena Bay Festival. Him and Vig are responsible for many of the great shows that come to the Waverley. 

Being a newbie, here in the Comox Valley, it's important that I get myself immersed into the community and thankfully, Ben & Vig started up an event that supports up and coming djs, as well as provides an opportunity for those of us that are new to the area.

These are songs I've wanted to put together since Dec. 2018 -- so my next mix will be tracks from 2019 - but I didn't want these to go unheard... 

I've decided that I am going back to the way I've always mixed - starting with about 115 BPM- and then journeying through to about 125-129bpm (likely in 2 parts like this one) - and will be including nu-disco, indie dance, all kind of house and breaks. Yay!

I am also enjoying so many different kinds of music and hope to make more mixes for intuitive dance, world music and more. Stay tuned.

2024 - FIERCE & FRAGILE - dj sprouT LIVE MIX @ ACE BREWING - JUNE

Edited: I made an awful ASSumption... I will leave up my original post to be transparent. 

Well this happened! I put on a night in Nanaimo called Remix Reload about 3 weeks ago... and it was a great night. Played every remix I could find in my crates! 

Things cleared out at about 1am so I thought, I'll go into some funky break remixes... But instead I played ALL of the breaks that I tagged as "dope" or "yeah" etc... But thought "what the heck, the staff is loving it, so let's roll with it."

A few minutes in, a group of about 8 people came in and they had that "Breakbeat look". I was getting some nods of approval, so I kept going. Next thing you know we're all jumping around, high fiving, and getting "down and doooty"... and I am just as surprised as them at how sweet the tracks are. Some tracks are a lot older, some from a few years ago. We were loving it.

After I was done, I chatted it up with this sweet little posse and one guy said "I kept waiting for you to trainwreck" and I wasn't surprised. (Here is where I was wrong) >>> 1. I had a beach gig earlier that day so I was in my little beach jumper and pigtails (I didn't look the part) ... 2. As a woman dj, I get that more than I'd like to say, sadly. Even after 25 years... And nowadays, you'd think this wouldn't happen. But it does 😜 I don't get offended anymore tho, I just say thank you and flitt away more flattered than anything else.

This person wrote me a beautiful message, saying that is NOT what they meant at all and it was quite the opposite. I feel like such a boob. This is a very good learning lesson for me. I suppose I don't know a compliment when it smacks me right in the face. We're working it out and I hope to be actual friends from this experience!!!

2024 - Down & Dooty - Impromtu  Breaks - LIVE @ The Nanaimo Bar - Dj SprouT

I really didn't think I'd be DJing again this much after having quite a bit of trouble with my health over the past seven years. BUT, back in December, I seemingly climbed out of a dark hole and have been playing pretty much non-stop every weekend since, culminating in this last EPIC weekend at *Wicked Woods Music Festival! What a beautiful way to not only end the summer, but also mark a beautiful return to the music festival scene. Wicked Woods is held in Fairmont Hot Springs in the Columbia Valley, which is actually where it all began for me back in the late '90s. [Golden, BC]

I decided to move to Vancouver Island in 2009, and yes, I’ve been back to play, but the last time I was in the Columbia Valley was in 2017!

It was so incredibly amazing to see SO MANY buddies at this event. It felt like a real homecoming! I am forever grateful to Tracy Mihajic and Murphy for believing in me and supporting me to show up and rock a two-hour Monday morning set at The Unicorn Lounge! I had the best time! Watching the sun come over the mountains and shine on everyone's faces was such a treat. Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared the Love! I had so many friends surrounding me, it felt like a dream.

And, I am always so grateful for the ongoing love and support of my wicked husband, Tony. I likely wouldn't have been able to make it, if not for him. We really needed this too! We had a blast frolicking in the WOODS!

This set is also dedicated our sweet little Ivan The Cuddler (our beloved Cat of 14 years) who sadly passed on the same day that I played. We'll miss you buddy, your love will always live on in our hearts!

I hope you enjoy listening to this set as much as I loved dj'ing it! Huge props to all the producers who work tirelessly to make such great music!

I can say with all my heart that the love was palpable. I am not sure how many people were there but I am pretty sure I saw about 70ish smiling, sweaty faces! All ages. The youngest being under a year!

What a sweet community. I was so honoured to have been a guest today!

I dedicated my set to my Mom Georgina Lewis and to our beloved little Ivan #ivanthecuddler who left his body this past September. He's the reason I decided to become a Dance Temple Tender and I have met so many wicked peeps because of it. 

Thanks to the DT team and volunteers and my wicked hubbub Tony Hasenkrug for support with holding space, setup and teardown.

Seeing my besties out there sending me the good vibes is everything.

Why "Heart & Soul"? 

I chose this theme for many reasons. I have learned to become so aware of my thoughts. I observe and ask, are these my own thoughts? If I hear myself ruminating, I ask what is so important about this, that it requires repeating? Am I truly listening? If I start talking in circles or for too long, I wonder if maybe I'm nervous (and why) or wonder if I just don't feel heard.

So

Rather than re-acting and try answering with my thinking brain, I do my best to drop into my Heart Soul space and let my thoughts land there. I ask, "What would my heart say /do?" I am ALWAYS surprised at how this information, this deep knowing, is very different than from what I would have ever created with my rational thinking brain. Always.

So the same applies when I am Dj'ing and dancing in intentional spaces. Am I performing? Am I connected heart to heart? Soul to Soul? Does my body actually want to move this way? I drop in, I commune with my infinite Soul Wisdom and what becomes, becomes. It quite often brings me so much peace and joy... Or an opportunity for deeper retrospection / introspection and integration.

2025 - Heart & Soul @ Comox [Ecstatic] Dance Temple - DJ sprouT

I really don't have the words to describe my full experience curating and then playing this set for Denman Dance Temple. I can say that I went in feeling tired, a bit nervous and having some imposter syndrome. But... I got out of my head, dropped into my heart and I trusted my experience and intuition. I know I can't please everyone but the feedback was very good and tears were shed. 

I am thankful to Erin O'Brien and Riane DaSilva for curating this event, rentals and promotion and for holding space....The Denman Dance Temple Team!

What does the theme "Emergence" mean to me?

When I imagine the word emergence I think of a seed being planted in fertile soil. I see and feel the rain. And soon a little sprout emerges. The sun shares its love, heat and energy to call the little sprout upward.

Invitation: 

Today, I wonder who has been cultivating and preparing the soil? 
Who is planting seeds? 
And who has already been emerging, growing, blossoming?
Whose Soul may simply be in a liminal space?

2025 - EMERGENCE - LIVE @ Denman [Ecstatic] Dance Temple - DJ sprouT

A love letter to the dance floor, the body, and the sacred space that saved me. 

Heart & Soul is my very first sprouT-produced track (well it was my concept, I had help with everything else), born out of a deep and personal journey. I was honoured to be invited to DJ at the beloved Comox Valley Dance Temple, a space that became a weekly ritual for me to process grief, celebrate joy, and reconnect to my full self. The inspiration for this track came to me, fittingly, while dancing there. The phrase “Heart & Soul” landed deeply in my body. It felt like a message.

After facing a major health challenge that brought me back into relationship with my physical body, I found myself trusting again, wholly, in my own heart and soul. Not long after that moment of clarity, the song Heart and Soul by T'Pau found its way into my headphones. I knew I had to sample it.

I reached out to a longtime friend (and talented producer) to help me create a DJ tool around it... something raw and real that could move bodies and hearts alike.

This track blends my love for 80's pop with the emotional tension and release of modern breakbeats. Breaks bring a rhythm that interrupts in the best way: activating, grounding, and lifting at once. They offer room for emotional builds, unexpected drops, and cathartic movement. Perfect for ecstatic dance floors and club sets alike.

This is more than an edit, this is a thank you. To the music. To Dance Temple. To my friend Jason who helped me with producing it. To every part of me that showed up to heal, feel, and rise again.

This was the second part of my set at The Mex for SoulTek Frequencies. This was one of those nights that I really got to play around. Open format and literally went on without an agenda. I waited to see what the dancers responded to! 

There was a friend there that loves the bass styles so I decided that it was time for me to experiment. I got a little scrumpy. 

I REALLY enjoyed playing this set and I was getting all kinds of love so I kept going. This was not practiced and I feel this is the art in the Art of DJing. Ya dig?

THRESHOLD is that liminal space, the in-between, the moment of crossing, moving, dancing from one state to another… or not. It holds both endings and beginnings, the pause at the doorway where we choose whether to step, move, or dance into something new. 

This Threshold Dance will be infused with the energy of deep inquiry, courage, initiation, transformation, and the mystery of what waits just beyond the horizon. Or perhaps you just want to play, stay, rest in the liminal space in between.

DJ sprouT has been moving dance floors for over two decades, from underground raves to festival stages like Shambhala, Bass Coast, and Wicked Woods. With experience in 5Rhythms and over 30 years as an advanced holistic practitioner, she has held space for healing in diverse environments. Guided by a deep love for conscious, intuitive movement and music, sprouT weaves grooves, heart, and intention to lightly guide dancers through journeys of rhythm and release. At THRESHOLD, she invites us to play with new states of connection, presence, and transformation. Within, without and with each other.

A community gathering to tune in, join in, celebrate, meditate and unwind!
These sessions are lightly facilitated through opening and closing circle. We invite you to explore your own pathways into movement and to experience your own journey while being connected to the group field.

No experience necessary. All ages and abilities welcome. No one turned away for lack of funds. Dance Temple is a safe and sacred space for exploring creativity, prayers, and body awareness through movement. 

To hold this space we follow these simple guidelines:

~ Refrain from talking on the dance floor
~ Respect yourself and one another
~ May all relations be honestly reconciled. May all Canadians fulfill our obligations to be good treaty partners.

Hi dance lovers... Here are all the tracks I chose for my set at The Radio Stage Bass Coast 2012 http://basscoast.ca ... My recorder didn't end up recording my set (which is too bad because I dropped some funny vocals and also had a beautiful singer with me). So as a treat for those who have asked,  I thought I would put together a mix with all of the tracks I picked and it turned into a 4 hour mix! 

This musical journey starts out with Moombahton (House Raggaeton Fusion) into Indie / Nu disco... Plenty of Electro House with sprinkles of House, Techno and Tech House ... ending off, as usual, with a last bite of Dubstep.
