- brought into Ableton
- eq to clean samples
- chose a couple of different rhythmic pieces of typing to lead the rhythm of the song
- chopped up pieces of the typing as well into a drum rack, pitch-shifted and time-stretched to make a kit to support the song in addition to the pure typing samples
- had synth drones / cello plucks
- sidechained whitenoise to "kick" typing note
- recorded myself whispering the words of what I typed and reversed them

Disquiet Junto Project 0483: Type Set
The Assignment: Use a recording of yourself typing something as the underlying rhythmic track for a piece of music.

Step 1: You’re going to use a recording of yourself typing something as the underlying rhythmic track for a piece of music.

Step 2: Give some thought as to what you’re going to type. You might re-type something that already exists. You might type freeform, just associating ideas. You might type randomly. Arguably, the best thing to do is to think of something you want to write about, and then type that: Typing something you’re writing in your head will lead to momentary pauses where you consider things, and that will be infused into the cadence.

Step 3: Record yourself typing the text you decided upon in Step 2.

Step 4: Use the unedited recording from Step 3 as the rhythmic and underlying percussive element of a piece of original music. It’s preferable that you retain the recognizable sound of the typing.

halF seamlesS [disquiet0448] - with Mrs Dink & Sevenism

I sat down to make music with the intention of finding a way to express my emotions at the moment, and I was confronted with a wall of mental noise, presented to me by all the music technology at my disposal. While I struggled to find my heart, my mind was busy thinking about technology and technique. After a bit of discussion with @dr.no and @Hawthorn, decided to run with that as the concept for the piece. This is the result. 

I decided to also take inspiration from #disquiet0460 and start with a tortured, complicated sound (evocative of the mental "noise" that comes from using music tech for expression) and transitions to the starting point, then returns to the chaos. 

I started with a simple arpeggio on a nylon guitar (which I later changed to a synth sound). Added a Bitwig Micro-pitch device set to an obscure Wilson scale, and added a send track with Output Portal (granulated pitch transformations in this case) & Thermal (more glitchy feedback fx) on it. Added automation to start with Micro-pitch wet, FX send volume, and global tempo set very high, decrescendo, and then re-crescendo, over the course of the track.

As I'm sure you can imagine, this song wasn't an easy one to sing so may not be my best work but I couldn't resist getting into the festive spirit and having a go at this classic. I flipped this song into my motivation, to keep me moving forward, to remember that I come from resillent stock. I kept imaging a utopia for Black bodies to thrive without constant violence against them, simply for existing. A utopia where humans, no matter their ethnic background, wouldn’t be devalued because of their skin color, nor origin, but be accepted & celebrated for their uniqueness — to only be seen by their spirit. Like @lennykravitz said, "𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘭𝘺, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘖𝘯𝘦." I want to see a world where we do more collaborating and less isolating. I want to see real support for Black women, the same way that Black women always have, and always will give to ALL others. I imagine a world where Black bodies aren’t snatched up by the institution that is whiteness, and the collective energy for change really shifts our culture of fear and depression to abundance and the sharing of resources; where Black, Brown, & Indigenous peoples have institutional support and care. In the meantime, I will continue to strive for Black Joy, and choose the radical act of taking care of myself. Remembering Dr. MLK & Coretta Scott King on this day, and uplifting all of whom feel disheartened by these times. I see you 🖤🚀🕊✈️
