RHEINA is a Nairobi-based techno artist since 2018. Having performed at prestigious platforms like Sonár Festival (ES) and Boiler Room (INT’L) under her alias [MONRHEA], as well as delivering powerful techno DJ sets in the U.S., Uganda, and Belgium, RHEINA has established herself as a bold and refined voice in contemporary techno.

In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove.
And from this groove came the groove of all grooves.
And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldy declared,
"Let there be house!" and house music was born.
I am, you see,
I am the creator, and this is my house!
And, in my house there is only house music. But, I am not so
Selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes OUR house and
OUR house music!" And, you see, no one can own house because
House music is a universal language, spoken and understood by all.
You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless
You're deep into the vibe of house. House is an uncontrollable
Desire to jack your body. And, as I told you before, this is
Our house and our house music. And in every house, you
Understand, there is a keeper. And, in this house, the keeper
Is Jack. Now some of you who might wonder.
Who is Jack, and what is it that Jack does?
Jack is the one who gives you the power to jack your body!
Jack is the one who gives you the power to do the snake.
Jack is the one who gives you the key to the wiggly worm.
Jack is the one who learns you how to walk your body.
Jack is the one that can bring nations and nations of all
Jackers together under one house.
You may be black, you may be white; you may be Jew or Gentile.
It don't make difference in our House.

Ok, so im from Southampton, and spin trance and techno from early 90s through to early 00s. I have been collecting vinyl for nearly 25 years, but only started mixing again recently. I have never considered using anything other than vinyl, until 2021.

My main influence is mark eg. Seeing and hearing him smash dreamscape 21 was immense. An entertainer, a madman, and a damn good set builder, be it trance or techno. Always sought him out at events such as skelter, dreamscape, and the one and only country club in Evershot.

During the 1990s i travelled the country going to events such Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Hysteria, Devotion, Fusion, Tazzmania and Hardcore Heaven. The smaller events were always my faves. The Shire Horse in St Ives, Country Club, The Coven in Oxford and a little Club called Jollys  in Southampton. Listening to some of the biggest the scene has seen in its history. 

Old skool hardcore was my first love. Sterns, peace festival were tapes i used to collect. Around 93/94 i started hearing different sounds. They were of course, trance and techno. Dave Angel, trevor rockcliffe, colin dale, gayle san, mach one, warlock, colin favor,craig walsh. European sounds with UK and Anerican techno. Then the trance from europe, which had a different vibe. A euphoric sound which of course, went hand in hand with ecstacy. Hard sounds with uplifting breaks and undertones. Mark EG and M-Zones first ever set in the technodrome were massive points. DJs who were ahead of the game with the euro sound. Kenny Sharp and Vortex also pushing the more obscure stuff. How many unknown tunes are there to still be named from their sets???

Also a mention to other titans from yesteryear. Clarkee, scorpio, producer, aggressor, slipmatt, ellis dee, ratty, carl cox, hype, mickey finn, donovan smith, dolphin and 3Dom

MCs Ribbz (god), squidgy, EZy, sharkey, Marley, Lux, Lox, frostie, Mad P, GQ, robbie dee, lennie and digger.

I prefer to mix a more melodic slower trance set, as opposed to a fast trance set. Everyone knows the classics from back in the day.
