“Raised Vibrations feat. Brint Story / Yadava Remix” is the new release from producer, DJ and broken beat revivalist WheelUP aka West London’s Danny Wheeler. Linking with Alabamian rapper Brint Story, “Raised Vibrations'' showcases a different sonic side to the producer, stripping bare the percussive backbone of the track, leaving Brint’s alt-R&B vocals to “take the wheel”. While Mancunian producer, NTS resident and So Flute co-founder Yadava catalyzes the tune onto the dancefloor with a jazzy primed remix. 

“Raised Vibrations was something completely different stylistically for me, a rapper on a track with no drums… Working with Brint Story is super fun, we met in the Deep South of the US, through my cousin and I love his positive vibe and his style of rapping… combining Bruk West London Sound with an American rapper just made sense, it was not a plan to be different just a vibe that came naturally from my heart” Danny explains. 
 
“Raised Vibrations feat. Brint Story / Yadava Remix” is the latest instalment from WheelUP’s debut album ‘Good Love’ a record that featured the likes of Bembe Segue, Abacus (Pola & Bryson) and label-mate Tiawa. ‘Good Love’ was heavily praised for its resurgent broken beat sound by the likes of Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), Jamz Supernova (BBC 1Xtra), A-Trak (Fools Gold), Dave 1 (Chromeo), Benji B (BBC Radio 1), Bonobo, Ben UFO, Emma Jean-Thackray, Laurent Garnier and many more. “Take Me Higher feat. Tiawa”, the second single from ‘Good Love’, was playlisted on BBC 6Music.

As an artist, producer and DJ of dual Zimbabwean and British heritage, growing up in the epicentre of bruk that is West London around the likes of Goya Music, IG Culture and Kaidi Tatham, it was only natural that Danny would gravitate towards the ‘West London Sound’; as WheelUP puts it: “It’s in my musical DNA”. Originating from the drum and bass world as Danny Wheeler, WheelUP follows the footsteps and lineage of 4hero, evolving from jungle/D&B to broken beat/bruk and was recently knighted an “honorary Bugz” by the original dons of broken beat, Bugz in the Attic, due to WheelUP’s work in pushing the bruk sound to new audiences.

Over the summer WheelUP has taken his DJ set and live band – that includes singer-songwriter and afro-raver Toya Delazy, Nathan “Tugg” Curran aka Planet Battago on On The Corner and session drummer (Basement Jaxx, Gorgon City, Elton John), as well as bassist Tom Mason, part of the London jazz scene (Robert Mitchell’s Panacea, Richard Spaven) – notably to Shambala and We Out Here festival, as well as to the venues Hootananny, Lost Horizon, and Night Tales.

Sofatalk & XL Regular have come up with a wonderful jazzy EP for Outplay. Filled with warm chords and broken house beats. Italy’s Piero Paolinelli and Alessandro Giacchi are the newest addition to our Outplay family. They have released music previously on Omena, ANMA, Cognitiva Records (Sofatalk’s own label), INI Movement, Nómada and Monologues. 

Their EP for Outplay is called Afro Quarters EP and contains 4 electronic jazz funk infused house tracks and make for a perfect testimony of their musicianship.

Rumble Strip kicks off with broken beats turning into a 4x4 house beat filled with percussion, dreamy keyboard licks and sultry vocals to underline the floaty vibe. The title track, Afro Quarters, is up next pushing us further into their signature jazz infused broken beat house style. With the funky bassline and the stabby keys it’s hard not to move. Throw in tastefully done flute and Rhodes solos for the mature sound they’re known for.

The third piece is called Easy and contrary to its name it’s not as chilled out as you’d think. It’s incredibly groovy, with heavy staccato bass and keys, while keeping the dreamed out jazzy chords to balance it out. It makes us think of the masterful work of Kaidi Tatham. “On The Run” concludes the EP and continues the vibe displayed throughout the release filled with arpeggiated and stabby keys and vocal bits.

African Rhythms is Haze City's ode to AfroBeat and the amazing music that came out of Nigeria in the 1970/80's by incredible artists such as Fela Kuti, Tony Allen & Ebo Taylor.
Since its creation Afrobeat has influenced multiple genres and countless artists around the globe, with its pulsating poly rhythms and incredible musicianship.
Combining Afrobeat with Broken Beat is of course nothing new, with legends of the Bruk scene such as IG Culture & Bugz In The Attic having already done this to devastating effect.

This however, is a Haze City's humble ode to a genre he has a huge amount a love and respect for.

Currently celebrating the release of “Vitruvian Man”, his second digital single for Tru Thoughts Recordings, WheelUp pays tribute to both the current scene and the originators of the broken beat sound.

This is a broken beat, West London sound DJ mix I put together, featuring lots of unreleased and exclusive dubplates (special versions of certain broken tracks) from myself and my friends from the scene. I tried to encompass the new sound of Bruk and also give a nod to the generation that came before. I want this sound to be a reflection of my live DJ WheelUP sets and the progressive sounds that I love in contemporary music. Shout out to my Tru Thoughts family and the new leaders of the Bruk school.

The shout outs on the mixtape come from Toddla T the BBC Radio 1 DJ and trendsetter who has a big supporter of my music. Also EVM 128, a good mate who is another of the leaders of the new school / broken beat renaissance (he is part of CoOp present and Selectors Assemble and owner of Dance Regular record label). Also got a shout out from Mark 'G' Force who is one of the original pioneers of the broken beat, he is a founder of Bugz In The Attic and Coop. I also got a shout out from Tiawa who is my label mate on Tru Thoughts and a future star who I have collaborated with on my forthcoming album.

“Vitruvian Man” is the brand-new single from broken beat producer WheelUP aka renowned international DJ, drum & bass producer, and head-honcho of W10 Records – Danny Wheeler. Following on from the success of his feel-good anthem “Self Healing Machine” which was praised by DJ Target (BBC 1Xtra), Dummy Mag and John Kennedy (Radio X), “Vitruvian Man” demonstrates WheelUP’s flair for the heavier and darker side of bruk rhythms.

 

“Vitruvian Man” was debuted to the world by broken beat legend Lord Byron on CoOp presents: Selectors Assemble (Worldwide FM) alongside IG Culture. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic art piece, which expresses the seen and unseen, the connection between material/physical and spiritual worlds, WheelUP’s “Vitruvian Man” uses this as a vessel for his production. “Like with the music, it’s here (sound) and not here (non-physical) at the same time, like human life exists in the material (body) and conscience (mind)”, Danny explains, “it’s an esoteric idea but I like it, also its proportions to the human body and also sacred geometry”.

She has performed at prominent venues and festivals across Scotland and England, earning a dj residency at Glasgow’s iconic La Cheetah, where her sets fuse Afro inspired electronica , UK bass, jazz, electronica, dubstep and more. 

In 2024, ELANDA transitioned into live performance, incorporating music production, vocals, and stagecraft to connect with audiences in a deeper, more dynamic way.

As a co-founder of the Lüuma Collective and Annies Eden, they create conscious spaces through events that celebrate holistic healing, sound baths, and somatic workshops. ELANDA’s work is dedicated to fostering community and empowering personal expression through music and movement.
