twofold returns with a four-track of deconstructed club heaters for their Future Bounce debut in Free Air. The EP focuses on hard-hitting rhythm in the first half and expands outward into melody and atmosphere in the second, centering twofold’s dense production style throughout. The steady stomping march of a drumline opens up intro track “Ground”, while carnival drums juggle overhead. Title track “Free Air” ups the intensity, with snares and toms trading heavy blows over frantic hand percussion. Things get darker in “Subsurface”, where energetic rhythms knock against a backdrop of cavernous ambience. The EP’s closer “Skate” weaves a stuttered synth stab between huge metal clangs, sound effects, and skittish percussion. Free Air goes live on all platforms on 3rd April.

With MERDEKA, Animistic Beliefs broke free from external expectations
and reclaimed their ancestral narratives.
The album embodied a turning point on their ongoing journey
towards self-acceptance.

Now, with RE:MERDEKA, they pass that charge forward —
inviting a visionary lineup of 12 artists from diasporic, decolonial, and
experimental club circuits to rupture and rechannel its essence into new
frequencies.

Featuring contributions from Nada El Shazly, 3Phaz, Raja Kirik, twofold,
Exploited Body, Corin, Flora Yin Wong, Deena Abdelwahed, x/o, ZAH,
and Makossiri, each track is fracturing, magnifying, and reanimating
its themes further.

The reworks move across rhythmical architectures:
from fragmented percussive mutations to meditative hauntings.
Every composition a different dialogue.
Where the unresolved gathers form and stories breathe anew.

This collection continues MERDEKA’s first steps facing away
from Western club music. Leaning into polyrhythms, ancestral echoes,
and sonic influences drawn from diasporic and non-Western worlds —
worlds that amplify voices, emotions, and ideas that are too often erased.

We’re donating 50% of this release to the Sameer Project,
a donation-based aid initiative, led by Palestinians, working to supply emergency shelter and aid to displaced families in Gaza!

For our new episode of Ginene Radio, we head to Atlanta, Georgia, tuning into the music world of industrial club music producer/DJ twofold. Known for pushing Southern dance music into sharper, heavier contours, this mix weaves together the sounds twofold feels most at home with: hard drum, UK funky, gqom, ballroom and all things rhythmic. Along the way, you’ll hear hints of other genres plus a couple of their own original tracks, making it an intentional journey that traces paths through the histories and geographies of dance music.

Artist Bio
twofold is an industrial club music producer/DJ whose selections center around interrogating connections between regional, Black club sounds from the US, UK and Africa. Since 2022, their sets have brought a mass of liberating percussive energy to underground dance nights in Atlanta, blending favorite genres of the ‘00s and ‘10s with cutting-edge experimental sounds. Always moving with intention, twofold thrives on tracing paths through histories and geographies of dance music and finding new ways to re-center the dance floor.
