Born in West Berlin BassDee got in touch with dance music in the late 80ies, a few years before the Berlin Wall came down. The G.I. Disco influences on the  Kurfürstendamm Diskotheken, the engulfing Hip Hop movement and suddenly the Acid House wave aroused his inspiration to perform as a DJ. So he bought his first records at the PINKY record store, scratched together all his money to buy turntables to win the first merits in the science of mixing. The year 1989 changed his world inconceivably, when Monika Dietl was performing the best Dance Music Show at the West Berlin SFB 2 radio station, DJ Jon Magic Jonzon was spinning eternal house sets at the Berlin UFO Club, and the newly opened Hard Wax record store supplied unknown House Music from Chicago, Detroit and New York.

BassDee´s  first DJ club gig was at a Dubmission Party in 1991. In 1992, he started the Bassterror Project focussed on Breakbeat together with his brother DJ Feed and Alec Empire, while at the same time playing House and Techno at legendary clubs like the Berlin ELEKTRO (Resident), Friseur (Resident) or Tresor, and the Potsdam Waschhaus, where the Hard Wax DJs René and Pete shaped the probably most futuristic techno nights of that time. The enormous power of the breakbeat science hidden in the the big 1994 Jungle boom fueled things even further. In 1994 he started the admired Drum&Bass show "Radio Massive" together with Thaddeus Hermann at the Berlin Kiss FM station. His next major project was the Case Invaders record label initiated with DJ Bleed. Beside his residencies at the Berlin WMF, Elektro, Friseur, Toaster and Icon he dejayed at the same time in Berlins Clubs like 103, E-Werk, Maria, Ostgut, Cookies, Suicide, amongst others. As one of the creators of the famous Berlin "hard:edged" nights, he tremendously shaped Berlin's Drum&Bass scene. 

Since Drum&Bass somehow lost its edge, he found his way back to the enthusiastic embrace of House and Techno and returned with full enthusiasm to the Berlin club scene playing at places such as the Panorama Bar, Ohm, Palomabar, Acud, about:blank, Gretchen, Prince Charles, Horst Krzberg, WMF, M12,...

BassDee recently joined the Hidden Hawaii crew and co-produced the critically acclaimed “Veteranenstraße EP“ together with Felix K.

Following in the wake of other like-minded East Coast producers like Levon Vincent, Anthony Parasole and Fred P, Joey Anderson is the latest offering in a fresh load of artists hailing from New York. Like his predecessors the American reached a wider audience at a relatively late age, and also like those before him, Anderson can do a lot with very little. The art of omission is mastered by this techno stalwart, who quickly became a Dekmantel family member by both performing at our events and releasing an impressive album on Dekmantel Records.

This 12th instalment to the Dekmantel podcast series sees a beautifully build up mix. As Joey proofed at his Panoramabar set in March, he warms up a crowd like no other. This mix starts of with some deeper tracks, examplarery for the New York sound Joey represents. Towards the end the podcast becomes more techno and features “1974” from his latest EP on the Dekmantel label.

A smooth and vibey start takes you into the journey of techno, electro and UK warped styles.

No doubt, nd_baumecker is a wizard at the decks with a repertoire of dance music which gets us stoked each time he starts to spin his records. By releasing his contribution to our Blitz LIVE series, the long-time Panorama Bar resident once again proves his outstanding talent with a rather uptempo variety: splendid soulful energy, forward thinking dance-ability, punchy rhythm at the very right time and his unique no-Kitsch dreaminess. Whatever nd comes up with, it’s always forward thinking and fresh. In the power of music we trust. Thank you for these mighty two and a half hours, Andreas!

Blitz LIVE — nd_baumecker — 13.04.2019

Bulgarian born, Helsinki based Katerina has a unique take on rhythm and favours unusual moods in her music. That made her a perfect artist for the always left of centre Cómeme label, where she debuted late last year with a EP of improvised melody, post-industrial beats and lo-fi samples that swelled with fascinating ideas and emotions. In the club, she is unashamedly influenced by DJ Quik but brings her own psychedelic flavours and feelings to anything from techno too electro to punk. 

Initially here she takes a more bucolic approach with 20 minutes of genteel ambiance that is eventually consumed by a deep rooted minimal rhythm. The mix stays decidedly delicate and tender in the mid section, with astral pads and muted drums keep you in a state of dreamy hypnosis  before getting more dark and unhinged thanks to rugged acid lines, lo-fi techno and a euphoric breakbeat closer that completes this most perfect paced and journeying mix.

Dekmantel Podcast 248 - Katerina

@myles-mac is perhaps best known as co-founder and curator of trusted electronic music platform and mix series @melbourne-deepcast, but his list of credentials stretches much longer than that. A fixture of Melbourne’s underground for the past decade, Myles has cemented his reputation as a respected DJ and curator through both Melbourne Deepcast and his famed Lost Weekend club nights. His eclectic and diverse selections - both as an individual DJ and as one half of the 90s house duo Project 95 (@proj95) - have meanwhile earned him space on lineups across Australia and overseas. 

While Myles, like many of us, has found a sense of calm in downtempo and ambient music the last few months, in his Patterns of Perception 75 he switches gears. Here, Myles seamlessly fuses some of his favourite fast, spacey techno and energised broken rhythms with moments of pure, atmospheric euphoria. The resulting hour and a half feels like a triumphant return to the club: offering both a brief escape from our current moment and a much needed reminder of the energy that can only be created by a dance floor in full flow.
