Belgium based Cleveland ( @clevelandmusicpage ) presents a beautifully diverse mix for Animix thirty-seven. Strung together with consistently driving percussion, in his signature style, the mix spans between uk bass, idm-y chords and bouncy tech house.. a match made in dancefloor heaven :') 

Cleveland has a bunch of releases on Hivern Discs, ESP Institute and most recently a great EP on @kalaharioystercult,having made himself a mainstay in the European scene for quite some time now.

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community:
Be yourself and do your best to let go of "perfection", it just does not exist. Ride the rhythm not the cue mark. Practice with any two records and/or tracks. Play YOUR beat in the mix, your friendships and with life in general. Less surrender to being salty may not be so cool these days but it will welcome a more patient attitude with yourself and help those that you love.

Intergalactic Gary is a Dutch DJ and producer who has many miles on his DJ clock. He first started plying his trade on the raw West Coast of the Netherlands back in the early nineties, where he would rock squat parties and amaze club crowds with his widescreen sets. Ever since then he has been a key player in the Dutch scene, is part of cult crew The Parallax Corporation and is never far away from a pirate radio station. As well as this, nowadays he is a regular on the European circuit at places like Panorama Bar and has long been a Dekmantel favourite.  A real mix specialist who has put out countless official compilations over the years, Gary is behind the next podcast, which is a 3,5 hour live recording, for us and it is a typically well formed affair that takes us deep into his world.  

With more than a hint of the cosmic atmospheres you would expect of someone called Intergalactic Gary, his selection is a dark, moody one full of broken disco and whacked out electro. Shades of new wave, Italo and synth pop also colour the grooves he lays down, and the cumulative effect is an absorbing, slightly unsettling ride through fierce textures, prickly percussive patterns and otherworldly atmospheres. 

Dekmantel Podcast 031 - Intergalactic Gary

Quentin Vandewalle is probably better known to you as Zaltan. The French DJ is head of the Antinote label; a homebase for many upcoming artists such as Syracuse (catch them on this year’s Lente Kabinet), D.K, Dominique Dumont and Geena. It is the place where horizontal ambient, gently Balearic sounds and nostalgic house all rub up with retro design attached to it. Each EP and LP is a lovingly crafted and memorable affair that will sooth any busy brain or tired soul, and that is the case with his journeying mix for Dekmantel. 

Over the course of an hour, it will ensure you to forget your woes and drift to a sunnier place before getting down to some dancing action. Vocal ditties, dusty breakbeats and crunchy DIY beats get blended and fused into a set that is expertly slow to start, then decidedly direct later on. Listen and learn from a master of balancing beats with blissfulness.

Dekmantel Podcast 064 - Zaltan

The Russia based Inga Mauer will proudly line up at our Dekmantel Festival this summer. And it is easy to see why: she has a high impact, strobe lit dark techno sound that is impossible to escape. This is true of her DJ-sets as well as her productions, which have been released on labels like Hivern Discs and shtum. Imbued with elements of EBM, hellish synth craft and psychedelic tendencies, she brings a fresh and widescreen persecutive to electronic music that really stands her out. 

Her mix is here just as alarming for all the right reasons: it quickly shifts from foreboding noise tracks to eerie drones, from cold wave styles to thudding house via nasty old school techno. Powerful and visceral throughout, it’s a muscular mix that takes many risks and veers off into a weird and wonderful world of sound that is never less than brilliantly unpredictable.

Dekmantel Podcast 126 - Inga Mauer

Deena Abdelwahed has a two way relationship with music: in her early years back home in Tunisia when she programmed nights at Nüba, she was known for introducing the likes of footwork, UK bass and kuduro along side experimental house and techno to the local scene. Meanwhile, her own music on labels like InFine has introduced European audiences to bass and techno with plenty of fascinating Arab influences.  This was best showcased on her Khonnar album late last year, which came with plenty of inventive rhythms, weird sound designs and generally challenging musical ideas. 

Abdelwahed’s mix for us comes ahead of her performance at Dekmantel Festival in August and showcases her ability to twist basslines and layer in spiritual ambiance to absorbing effect. It manages to be punchy and physical yet thoughtful throughout, and also comes with plenty of the Arab influences - vocals, instrumentation, rhythms -  that make her work so standout.

Dekmantel Podcast 236 - Deena Abdelwahed

@myles-mac is perhaps best known as co-founder and curator of trusted electronic music platform and mix series @melbourne-deepcast, but his list of credentials stretches much longer than that. A fixture of Melbourne’s underground for the past decade, Myles has cemented his reputation as a respected DJ and curator through both Melbourne Deepcast and his famed Lost Weekend club nights. His eclectic and diverse selections - both as an individual DJ and as one half of the 90s house duo Project 95 (@proj95) - have meanwhile earned him space on lineups across Australia and overseas. 

While Myles, like many of us, has found a sense of calm in downtempo and ambient music the last few months, in his Patterns of Perception 75 he switches gears. Here, Myles seamlessly fuses some of his favourite fast, spacey techno and energised broken rhythms with moments of pure, atmospheric euphoria. The resulting hour and a half feels like a triumphant return to the club: offering both a brief escape from our current moment and a much needed reminder of the energy that can only be created by a dance floor in full flow.
