Cameroonian father, Ukrainien mother, blessed with an innate swoop of energy and trained as classical, modern, hip-hop and salsa dancer: when analyzing the instaurations of William Kouam Djoko one can only conclude that the Amsterdam based artist is blessed with an enviable framework for a prosperous career in music. His vibrant appearance shows he’s an entertainer par excellence; Djoko is able to grab the attention of his audience instantly thanks to an unbridled onstage enthusiasm. In the 30th edition of the Dekmantel Podcast, Djoko demonstrates his versatility and unstoppable love for rhythm with a percussion-soked mix that will shake up your day.

Intergalactic Gary is a Dutch DJ and producer who has many miles on his DJ clock. He first started plying his trade on the raw West Coast of the Netherlands back in the early nineties, where he would rock squat parties and amaze club crowds with his widescreen sets. Ever since then he has been a key player in the Dutch scene, is part of cult crew The Parallax Corporation and is never far away from a pirate radio station. As well as this, nowadays he is a regular on the European circuit at places like Panorama Bar and has long been a Dekmantel favourite.  A real mix specialist who has put out countless official compilations over the years, Gary is behind the next podcast, which is a 3,5 hour live recording, for us and it is a typically well formed affair that takes us deep into his world.  

With more than a hint of the cosmic atmospheres you would expect of someone called Intergalactic Gary, his selection is a dark, moody one full of broken disco and whacked out electro. Shades of new wave, Italo and synth pop also colour the grooves he lays down, and the cumulative effect is an absorbing, slightly unsettling ride through fierce textures, prickly percussive patterns and otherworldly atmospheres.

As you might have heard already, we’re quite stoked about our upcoming Dekmantel Records release by Basic Soul Unit. His debut at our label comes in the form of his album “Under The Same Sky”. The Canadian producer, real name Stuart Li, has been dropping quality records via a litany of highly respected imprints like Ostgut Ton, Crème Organization, Mule Electronic and Versatile over the past decade. Hypnotic and deep, but always funky, and very well produced. In this week’s podcast Basic Soul Unit proves he’s not only a stellar producer, but a very skilled DJ with a keen eye for tracks that others don’t pick up. Enjoy a classic ride trough subtile house, some disco, a couple uptempo tracks and of course some music of the upcoming album.

@johannesalbert is probably just under-the-radar enough to count as un unsung hero, but the Berlin-based DJ and Wilde Renate resident has been delighting dancefloors worldwide for almost a decade now. His most recent release, 'The Dancing Plague' EP, came out on Needwant in June and played host to four deliciously wonky summertime Italo cuts.

Johannes was at Love International earlier this month when he played the Renate boat party alongside Lauer and Peak & Swift. Bringing a dash of that Adriatic flavour to your Friday, we're very happy to present his set from that afternoon, which showcases both his range and ability to get the dancefloor grooving.

Ellie Stokes is a truly exciting Bristol-based selector, rapidly ascending from the underground with a DJ style that adds colour, variation and flavour to the retro house cuisine.

Here she comes forward with a head-spinning mix of grooves and moods, a wave of warm air peppered with sand, debris and spray. A texturally complex journey through sound.

In parts, this is a true spin of classic house.. But in more ways it's a shot through the kaleidoscope; slap bass, organic vocals, live drums, liquid analogue synths. Proper quality vibes from West Coast UK!

"The  mix  was  recorded  at  the  end  of  the  summer  and  captures  the  early  evening  summer  headyness.  It's  compiled  from  tunes  I  was  listening  to  and  playing  out  at  the  time,  from  deep  and  chilled  to  more  dance  floor  vibes.  Recorded  in  my  sunny  flat  on  vinyl  and  digital."

This is a communal radio station/program/project, it begins in Bethlehem and Ramallah, and aims to extend to other places in Palestine and throughout the world, an open platform for listening, adding, discussing, and chatting. So we can all go through this time of solitude while communicating and reminding each other of each other. We hope this is the beginning of a collective space that will continue once this worldwide crisis is over. We won’t know all the ones who are listening, nor the ones who will be adding and broadcasting, such is this digital situation we are living in now. But we send hope and courage to everyone, and we tell you: See you soon! Stay tuned, from the bedroom to the living room and back again...
