"An important part of touring is the connections you make with different people when travelling around the world. And when going to America, a big part of that experience has been connected to the people around Interdimensional Transmissions and The Bunker NY. While we couldn’t be together in person, I was very glad to be part of Samhain XX streaming online. The set was recorded at my home in Tokyo, but I tried to play how I might have played if I was with everyone in Detroit. Who better than DIAL stalwart Efdemin could wrap up the year on such a distinctly class-act type of note? Probably no one. He who’s become an absolute gem trader over the years through a string of epoch-making efforts, including the time-proof masterpiece that is “Decay” in 2014, drops by to grace us with a mesmeric Xmas tale by way of waving goodbye to 2022. Extruding elements of techno deepness out their usual cast to mingle them with that exploratory, jazz-inflected approach of his - subtly pairing the lingering beauty of stretched-out synths with that of free-flowing 4x4 grooves and haunting melodies, Efdemin entices us on a path of delectably focused and flavourful techno sensibility. An absolute pleasure and honour for us to round off 2022 in such good company.

We are delighted to announce our new Nightime Drama podcast series. We have carefully selected artists for the podcast who's sound we are passionate about. Our first guest for the series hails from Zurich, Switzerland, DJ Eli Verviene. Eli graced our shores down under in 2013 and again in 2014 playing at both Nightime Drama in Adelaide and 4our in Sydney.

Elis approach to djing is to tell her story through her sets, ensuring a diversity of genres, a warm energy and a style that is her own. Recording mixes in the past for the mnml ssgs blog and Resident Advisor, both of which she garnered enthusiastic responses, Eli has now recorded a mix for us at Nightime Drama. 1) Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Most definitely a night owl!

2) What is your home city and what makes it special?

Zurich is such a lovely city, which has a lot to offer for its size. Located at a beautiful lake surrounded by snowy mountains.

 3) The term DJ's DJ gets thrown around a lot these days, who is your DJ's DJ?

 4) What first comes to mind when you think of electronic music in Australia?

Well, most definitely a vivid and colourful underground scene created by passionate people. Even though, unfortunately, people on my side of the planet are not aware it. 

Ahead of my first visit in OZ, I didn't know what to expect. What a great surprise it was, to meet so many like-minded people which are so passionate about what they are doing. Not to forget that you have, in my opinion, one of the best record stores in the world in Adelaide - "Transition Records". Despite its relatively small size, the selection is exceptionally and it is impossible to leave the store without a gem.I truly hope that Australia's electronic underground scene will get its well deserved recognition.

5) What has been the stand out track that you've playing this month?

Autechre - Incunabula

It`s not a track but a whole album I have to mention. I've been waiting many years to have this gem on vinyl and now now it finally got re-pressed.

The music Aurora Halal creates is informed by many different disciplines. She is a producer, but also a videographer and visual artist who has worked on films about modular synth godfather Morton Subotnick amongst others. She is also the force behind Brooklyn’s Mutual Dreaming party series as well as the Sustain-Release festival. In just a couple of years she has cooked up an expressive and experimental techno sound—solo and with the likes of Ital—on labels such as Lovers Rock and her own Mutal Dreaming Recordings. Oppressive and foggy, her distorted, imperfect sounds made up of heavy drums and scurrying synths have taken her to plenty of remarkable live gigs all over the world. Now she steps up to our mix series with equal aplomb.

Active on the parisian electronic music circuit from the late 2000s, Coxone started out as an writer and podcast curator for the highly influential music blog Get The Curse, and a founding member of offbeat event promoters MeliMelo.

In 2014 he created Spazio Tempo with Beckenbauer and ZBK, a collective which hosted parties at Batofar, Rex Club and À La Folie, and ran until 2019. Guests included Wata Igarashi, Patrick Russell, Marco Shuttle, Dasha Rush, Yuka, John Osborn, Neel and more. During that period, Spazio Tempo held a residency on Rinse France and played gigs at Concrete (Paris) and IBoat (Bordeaux). They were also resident DJs at the woodporn events, opening nights for DJ Nobu, Claudio PRC, Eric Cloutier and so on.

Since 2021 he has been based in Nantes and concentrating on DJing, self-hosting a regular show on Blast Radio and doing extended sets at Bar 303.

As a DJ, he specializes in both ambient music and danceable sounds, mixing many different influences and always adapting to the mood and setting of events and places.
