Mix techno

XDB is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. He started djing in the early 90s and still plays vinyl only. Over the years his music was released on labels like Dolly, Harbour City Sorrow and Sistrum. In 2006 he started the record label Metrolux. There’s a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Enjoy!

Berlin via Ireland, David has gained a cult following among well educated music fans via his label Transmigration. Following taste over hype along with careful art direction he’s been responsible for unearthing and reissuing some of the best psychedelic electronic
music from years gone by. 

More recently he’s expanded operations to include two new labels - Sacred Stones, an outlet for his own DJ edits; hand stamped and vinyl only as well Crystal Ceremony, a label dedicated to showcasing new talents from around the world. In addition to this he co-runs Sound Migration, a collaboration with Berlin institution Sound Metaphors.

Informed by his love for digging older music as well as his position as buyer for Sound Metaphors, his DJ sets are nostalgic, transcendental and futuristic. Effortlessly combining the best in new and old electronic music. This has seen him play across Berlin’s club
landscape, from the smallest basement clubs right up to the main floor of Berghain.

Let's head back to Fuse on January 4th for two hours of technical, percussive and ambient soul. Intertwining minimalist techno, UK-influenced bass, and polyrhythmic grooves, he kept the listener focused in dreamscapes as he reflected his influences from labels like Nous’klaer, Spazio Disponibile, and his distinct attention to unconventional time signatures or drum work. Aurora Halal is a producer, DJ and creator of Brooklyn’s influential Mutual Dreaming party series & the Sustain-Release festival.

Shadowy and psychedelic, her hardware live & DJ sets have a hazy sensuality and metallic dance floor intensity that’s at turns playful, dark, euphoric and emotionally vulnerable. In all her projects, she treats dance music as an are­na for trans­for­ma­tion and since 2010, her events have been root­ed in an under­ground, DIY approach that push­es for­ward-think­ing sounds, pro­duc­tion, and ideas. She’s spent the last 10 years tour­ing like-mind­ed clubs, raves, and fes­ti­vals world­wide and gained a rep­u­ta­tion for pow­er­ful, unique per­for­mances that work both the body and mind. She’s 4 years into a res­i­den­cy at NYC’s Nowa­days, is a reg­u­lar at Berghain and pre­vi­ous­ly De School.

Reaktor Mix by Manni Dee

French Dj and producer Soraya Daubron aka Sentimental Rave found in gabber a way to “translate the violent energy of 1990-2000's French rap.” Based in Paris, she explores a large techno repertoire – from its trance fringes to its hardcore form – and participates in the greatest underground forces of the French capital. For i-D, she assembles the tunes that reflect her sound aesthetics the most and her love for rave culture : “the rave umbrella covers all the sounds that attract me. It is also a movement that gathered people who were not necessarily made to be with each other.”

CEM’s unique DJ style has been referred to as “emotive hysteria” and that couldn’t be more apt. He plays in highly intense and energetic ways, lacing together frenzied and frantic techno with a UK edge. A core resident at Berlin’s cult Herrensauna party at Tresor, he draws on his punk upbringing back in Vienna to cook up the sort of electrifying soundtracks that have become vital to the queer community.

This mix is a perfect showcase of his race style: it’s just over an hour of blistering and always futuristic techno that never relents. Subtle diversions into broken beat, rave and jungle keep you on your toes and always locked in for what is the most thrilling of rides. It’s hard to play as intensely yet captivatingly as this, but CEM does it better than anyone.
