We're delighted to arrive at our 400th podcast with CARISTA (@iamcarista) at the helm. Since winning a DJ competition a decade ago, the Utrecht native has not stopped. She is now a firm part of the European underground who has platformed plenty of talent on her own United Identities label, regularly plays our own festivals and hosts on NTS while also emerging as a fine producer in her own right. She has a knack for digging far and wide and playing anything from soul to house, garage to electric sounds, and she proves that here. 

Her mix offers fresh and forthcoming music from United Identities artists Conrad Soundsystem and Sansouni, classics from Louie Vega and Kerri Chandler and cutting-edge grooves from Livity Sound. Whether you're hearing a track or a DJ set, you can usually tell it's Nene H pretty quickly. In just a few years, Beste Aydin has developed a very specific approach within the realm of techno. She inhabits the genre yet colours just enough outside the lines without losing the plot—or the pull—entirely. The focus is on fun, on groove and on hooks, with sets that dip into trance, electro, ghetto house and even hints of hyperpop, tying in neon threads into techno's all-black garb. 

She's used techno as a jumping off point for orchestral and choral performances, as well as the poignant expression of grief (on her stellar debut album). She's become a regular at Berghain and groundbreaking festivals like CTM, traversing a highbrow-lowbrow line that posits that every kind of dance music deserves the highbrow treatment. Her RA Podcast is an irresistible hour of techno full of what she calls "Neneisms," turns into pop hooks amidst hulking techno beats and dips into funky, electro-informed beats.

This is a wild, unapologetic, barnstorming ride recorded between 1:00-4:00 on a throbbing dancefloor during the first leg of Nowadays Nonstop on the night of Jan 20. This was a romp of delivering my intentions passionately and precisely, playing many of my favorites, and operating at my very best across genres, traveling through a tunnel of engulfing psychedelic darkness, bass weight, shifting tempos, and beat structures into celebratory light. 

As an artist/DJ, these are some of the moments one lives for. It’s certainly something I’ve dreamed about for years. The opportunity to play in one of the rave’s hallowed halls - one of the most esteemed clubs and my own very favorite - was a dream come true and has been a quiet moment of apotheosis and vindication of years of dedicated, focused work. 

There are many nods and treats in this set: tracks shown to me by friends, absolute hypnotizing favorites and gems I’ve held onto, the voice of my true love, and (for those following my lore closely) the magic of opening with Phil Elverum’s work. Tracklist below:
