After the releases with original works from Tronik Youth, A Jokers Bizarre (Jokers Of The Scene + Club Bizarre) and Dj Rocca, with great remixes from artists such as Red Axes, Timothy J. Fairplay, Justin Robertson or MR TC, now it's the turn of the Spanish trio Cannibal Ink to make its debut on Rotten City.
They are Antonio Canca, Guillermo Iraola and Andres Navarrete. Fruit of the union of its old moniker Voodoo Corporation, Antonio & Andres joined Guillermo to look for those sounds that had frequented their neurons during the last years. EBM, New Wave, Industrial and Cosmic Disco are the palette of sounds that make up their DNA.
With releases in labels like Ombra International, and remixed by amazing artists such as Emperor Machine or Moscoman, now it's time to give welcome to these guys to Rotten City with an EP composed by two wicked original pieces full of electronics & dark ethnic sounds for the dance floor plus remixes from the mexicans Zombies In Miami and the lisergic italian duo Mushrooms Project. The first track on the A side is Samarkanda, a trip into the middle east. Slow and mechanical funk mixed with arabian sounds giving an ethnic touch to the darkness of the track.
After, we find The Souk, continuing the style of Samarkanda but in this case more narcotic, acid and deep than the previous.
On the B side we find the amazing 'Audio Guide Remix' from Zombies In Miami, and as the name says, it introduces us in the mode of a guided ceremony, in a shamanic ritual that will make us find our own fears so we can let them go on the dance floor letting us flow through much more exciting places than the ones our mind normally is. Close your eyes and prepare to ride. Finally, the remix of Mushrooms Project offers another good trip for the head. Longer, deeper, more narcotic if is possible than the original and retaining that ancient and dark atmosphere. Startling.

Five years after the illustrious Paranormal Soul LP, techno derelict Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt returns on Clone with “Legendary Freaks In The Trash Of Time”. A vivid collection of twelve genre-defying tracks: from late-night hermit house to Memphis rap influenced slowjam electro, from Amiga 1200 technorave to cosmic spaceweed trance, including the whole universe in between. All blended together in a mix of  subdued sensuality and psychedelic splendour, this album is flavoured with Legowelt’s typical crunchy LO-FI sampler and synthesizer aesthetic. Wolfers’ own hand-drawn sleeve artwork illustrates the album’s mood without the need for much further promotional blurb… colourful stories embodying societal malaise and its dwellers - yet with a dash of aspiration. Music for misfits, witches, dreamers, cyberpunks, outsiders, geeks, and freaks. Legowelt’s people.

Jeremy Campbell and R. Zanzibar return as Out 2 with their debut full length, Showcase.  Following their recent Moving EP, the duo expand their mix of New York off-kilter pop lyrical poetics riding over percussive desk-dub funk grooves.  

After collaborating on releases for Lectric Sands and L.I.E.S (Zoovox and Locks & DDM) the Brooklyn team dug deep in the studio to create 6 vocals and their dub versions in a true ‘showcase’ style. 

With that, after its appearance in longer ‘discomix’ form, the album starts with the original version of Moving. Just under 3 minutes of hectic New York funk – chop guitar, punch bass and blasting horn jump ups.  Rolling straight to the Version, Campbell’s mixing desk skills let it all hang out and back.  Snares rattle, hats ride, bass in and out, a voice  rightly interjects “…are we moving?”

Sliding in to Dancing, the tryptamines start to flow and skip atop a steppas beat. The “raps”, dubs and fx weave their way in to your subconscious as electrons whirl in a warm psychedelic fuzz.  This is further exemplified in side closer, Pale Fens.  The improvised vocals fit seamlessly among the beats, bass and guitar haze.  As the skin, lips, eyes, pull you in, the Version takes it deep.  Sole guitar solo and the rest rides from the desk.  Perry, Bovell, Sherwood. The beauty in the space between is the essence of music itself. 

Side 2 starts with a crowning gem, Some Air’s Red There.  Flute rides a hook that is simplicity in its ingenuity.  Zanzibar in his wayward element… “she said I had the wrong rhythm?”  By now ears twisted to what the Version brings, the laidback vibes, with wind solo, drift to an Upstate/White Isle summer’s day that is long remembered. 

Don’t Stop comes on as a No NYC love paean.  Congas, rhythm guitar and impro’ lyrical flow, contorting bass, flange, flange, flange.  Run all day, we don’t stop.  Version just glides and glides.  Finally, to close, Run is the lazy finale dub (master)piece.  A simple Jammy’s style riddim; a midi-funk groove. It swings low alongside lyrical imaginings, encapsulating Out 2’s place in the New York firmament, where disco, punk, hip hop were and are very much fellows with the often overlooked, but amazing dub reggae that has been produced in the city for decades.

"2018 was a turning point in my 20-year love affair with Brasilian music, starting with the release of my reworks compilation Férias ’77 on Razor-N-Tape, and culminating in my recent trip to the Mareh Festival. Aside from being one of the gig highlights of my career - on a boat full of joyful dancers - the whole experience really deepened my feeling for the unique culture and music of Brasil. I came home buzzing, and ran this mix off in one shot without much planning, using some vinyl, some digital, some edits, and some originals. I hope that joy comes through in the music!"
