After a killer vinyl debut on Piccadilly favourites Aficionado and a serious sophomore release on Music For Dreams, A Vision Of Panorama returns on his own Mellophonia imprint with six coastal grooves for summer moods. "Floral Rhythm" opens the set with blossoming keys, lilting rhythms and a bouyant bassline, overpowering your senses with the lush atmosphere of tropical horticulture. "Seaside Tune" sees the producer slow the tempo and indulge in a spot of diasporic downbeat, layering the yearning chord progression with a combination of Chinese and Caribbean melodies. Closing the A-side out with the dancefloor in mind, Mikhail delivers "Blues 909", a head nodding fusion of compass point instrumentation and pitched down proto house that'll loosen the early doors crowd up no problems before "Heartbeat" takes the night to its next level. A solid beat underpins layer after layer of killer melody played on xylophone, marimba, guitar and arp, while the irresistible Burrell-esque bassline moves those hips like an orthopaedic surgeon. "Message From Library" follows on with the leftfield funk and steady backbeat you'd expect of a KPM classic, marrying stargazing vocoder with cinematic strings, before the stunning "Mosaic Xylos" closes the set out. As beautiful as its name, this Balearic dream brings to mind "C'est La Oate" and "TV Scene" with its sunkissed groove and future primitive instrumentation. Classy, cool and refreshing, this EP is the perfect soundtrack for summer, and yet another essential release from A Vision Of Panorama.

Dutch psych-rock artiste Jacco Gardner, and production partner in crime, the percussive culprit behind many a twisted tropical beat, Nic Mauskovic, have teamed up for a devilish EP of cinematic, Balearic disco for their debut EP as Bruxas. Wielding a love for the wild and exotic, Más Profundo is a record influenced by the black arts, the sun, and the love of making nostalgic, summertime music.

Fall under a deep, exotic spell with the new project that is Bruxas; a psychedelic journey into the tropics. Together Gardner and Mauskovic are all about pure vibes, and international feel. You will constantly be picking the sand out from the record's grooves, whether you play it on the beach or not. Gardner's self-titled solo project, featuring Mauskovic on drums- has to date, won him many, global plaudits, comparing him to the likes of Broadcast, and Tame Impala. Mauskovic meanwhile garnered himself a reputation for sub-equatorial percussion, featuring in bands such as Altin Gün, Eerie Wanda, and of course, the aptly-titled cumbia, new-wave act, The Mauskovic Dance Band.

Bruxas came together when the two were playing backing band for the 70s James Brown-meets-Black Sabbath act, Witch. Feeling inspired, they began their collaborative musical odyssey by writing new music together in Portugal.

(Bruxas is Portuguese for witch by the way). "It was a combination of things that sparked the idea to start Bruxas," Gardner states, "our love of 70s soundtracks, library music, African disco, and Afrobreat." Mixing together their well-honed percussive rhythms, along with layered synths and the occasional vocal, Bruxas was born; a project less on the side of fuzz-rock, and more on the side of an occultist rhythmic, devil-dance. 

"We both love exotica and electronic music. I was really getting into library music while working on my last album, stuff recorded in the 70s that is difficult to classify, where traces of psychedelia can be found in almost everything. We wanted to make our own mix, and see if we could mold it into a contemporary music project, that’s easy to bring to the stage." - Jacco Gardner

The Dekmantel EP is a kaleidoscope cabinet of curiosities, unearthed from the tropical wilderness. 'Más Profundo' is the deepest of all the treasures, while 'Tropicacovas', with its wistful island ambiance, conga beats and rolling bass, soundtracks the whole affair, before delving into the jungle with 'Selva Cosmica'. Animals gasp as the energy becomes more electric, while the Dutch duo play on, with 'Plantas Falsas'. A true carnival of wild assorts. Drinks are free. Fun, and sunshine, there’s enough for everyone. "Each track is a little journey, some through Africa, others just at a fancy Italian pool party," Gardner says about the EP, "there is definitely a worldly character about them, which ties into the exotica element that connects all the tracks."

Sterns Edits is a new collaboration between legendary African & Brazilian label and distributor Sterns Music and London producer and label owner Ben Gomori.
Each Sterns Edits release will see Gomori - who has created dozens of much-loved edits of the likes of Marvin Gaye, Leonard Cohen, Sampha and DJ Shadow over the years - rework two tracks from the vast Sterns catalogue, melding these various styles of African music with his own house grooves to make for dancefloor ready weapons. 

The intricate kora playing of Dawda Jobarteh makes for a mesmeric trip on this debut release, with 'Sama Kebbalu' ('tomorrow's elders') given a peak-time workout that makes fine use of the rousing, chanted chorus and rolling rhythm, and 'Bright Sky Over Monrovia' cut into a dub that focuses on the stunning finger-picking and passes it through heady delays.

Afriquoi are back with their ‘Time is a Gift Which We Share All the Time’ EP. Taken from a line from the track ‘Ndeko Solo’, the title is a reminder of the blessedness of being alive and the intimate connection of all things.

This is the first EVER Afriquoi release where the whole band has gone into the studio to record a full live-band sound, playing together at Octagon Studios, putting down songs that were written collaboratively and honed over years on live stages. It was recorded with the assistance of Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa) to help capture the right live sound.

More than any of Afriquoi’s previous releases, this EP allows each member’s individual sound and talent to shine: Jally Kebba Susso’s exquisite kora playing, Fiston Lusambo’s intricate Congolese guitar, uplifting vocals from Andre Espeut, crisp percussion from André Marmot, tasteful chords from Nico Bentley and beats from Oli Cole.

Guitarist Fiston Lusambo explains: “we wanted to create a style of music which does not exist yet by combining Congolese guitar, Gambian kora, African Djembe and mixing them with European music… this EP is a result of our work where each of us has put his talent in it, we think we have now something which is what we wanted”.

Parisian label Mawimbi are the perfect match for the band, having established themselves as champions of afro-tinged electronic music , through their long-running nights in Paris, their DJ sets, their label releases and their own productions and remixes for the likes of Oumou Sangaré, Femi Kuti, Cerrone & more.
